I mean, for a start it's all just a load of talking. It takes about a day to watch. And the cat is crap in it ! I just don't understand why everyone says it's one of the best films ever made when it's so crap.

I wouldn't go as far to say it was crap, but the sequel is miles better imo.

So wooden - clearly has never been to Rada or had any kind of theatrical training.

If you fast forward thru all the talking you can get thru it in less than a day.

There seems to be a lot of crap threads going around. I liked aliens , not alien, loved the godfather and can't get enough of bill Murry. Answers all 3 threads in one go!

Yeah and you can take that 'in space no one can hear you scream' line and shove it up where the sun don't shine as well!

I have to agree ALIEN is the worst of the Alien Legacy. I will probably cause a huge debate from saying this but it is CRAP!!!
1. Aliens
2. Alien 3
3. Alien Ressurection
4. Alien

at least in the other 3 films you get to see the alien(s) for more than 3-4 minutes and they dont waste time with crappy storyline at the start.
I finished watching the complete Alien Legacy box set about 5 hrs ago (after picking it up brand new for 27 quid :) ) and i really cant see why there was so much hype about it.

AND ANOTHER THING - STOP SAYING ALIEN 3 IS CRAP!!!
Its a stunning film, it actually manages to keep some tension and atmosphere (unlike alien...tension my arse..:)

I liked Alien, loads of suspense. Good movie, but nowhere near as good (IMHO) as Aliens, which is a classic action/suspense movie. But it's a personal thing I guess, one mans necter is another mans poison and all o' dat! ;)

Seriously, I prefer Aliens as it's more action packed. Alien is slow, but is suspenseful, especially the first time you watch it. Still a good movie though.

I don't think Alien was crap - IMO I thought it was eerie and full of suspense. If you just want see more aliens, buy a H.R. Giger book and flick through the pages. having not seen one of Gigers' Aliens before I was intrigued by the little flashes of it throughout the film and scared sh*tless when I saw it in its full glory.

Though after watching Aliens, when you see them all the time. I could well imagine that some people going back to the original, could get bored easily as they've simply seen it all before.

IMO Its badly paced and contains neither the fear and suspense of the first film, nor the action and excitement of the second film. The only new thing new it had to offer was an alien dog, and its attacks were pretty pityful. I disliked the ending also as it seemed to betray Ripley's "survivor" mentality which I enjoyed from the first two films

apart from that I can't really have a lengthy debate about it as I've only seen the latter 2 films a couple of times and that was enough for me.

IMO they should have stopped after the first two films rather than bleeding the characters and the storyline dry.

I enjoyed Alien. It's quite a good, interesting horror film.

The second, Aliens, is in my opinion the best of the four films. It is absolutely fantastic.

Alien³ is an interesting, OK film. I enjoyed it. I thought the series really should have ended there.

Alien Resurrection is an absolutely terrible film, and should never have been made. It's a muddle of a film, boring, and just has too many boring action scenes with no suspense whatsoever. The worst of the series by far.

I don't think that Alien5 will be any good, but you never know.

Who have they got directing it?
I heard rumours of Ridley Scott, im not sure if that would be a blessing or a curse to the saga. He knows no subtlety, but we may end up with another Aliens which would be cool.
I have also heard rumours of the plot involving a Alien inasion of earth? Please NO! this is a space saga!

Aliens was done by Jim Cameron, not Ridley Scott. And Alien is much more of a horror film Hardnox.

Yeah...what i meant was James Cameron (maker of Aliens) and Ridley Scott make similar films. So If Ridley Scott Directed Alien 5 it may end up similar in format (levels of suspense/action/horror) to Aliens.

I don't think that Ridley Scott would direct Alien5 somehow. http://members.tripod.co.uk/Paul490/frown.gif

I reckon it's just going to be another bang bang action movie without the stuff of the other films. I will be very surprised if it turns out to be a good film. I think it'll just be a money-maker, just something to rip-off the punters with.

Have you listened to Scott's commentary on Alien? There are a few minutes when he talks about his ideas for a possible Alien 5 / 6, in which he'd explore the alien homeworld and what the aliens are actually meant for (bioweapons), which certainly suggests that he's got plenty of interest in the alien saga still. Indeed, in many interviews over the years, he's often said he'd love to make another alien film (he wanted to do part 2), and he's not above doing sequels: Hannibal, anyone? I'd love him to make another one, especially if it were the final installment.
