I am moving my Hifi to the other side of the living room and the current 3M phono leads connecting my DVD player to my hifi are not long enough.
I was wondering if there is a product available that takes in six channel surround sound, and can send the signal to a receiver at the back of my hifi... to negate the need for six phono leads to be wired under the floor-boards.
A few points to note.
DVD player has s-video, 6xphono, and optical outs.
Hifi only has 6xphono ins.
New distance between DVD and Hifi will be ~6M.
Do such wireless transmitter / receivers exist? I cannot find anything suitable. Preference would be DVD --> optical --> transmitter --> receiver --> 6xphono --> hifi.

I don't know the answer to your question but couldn't you buy a 3m opitical cable?, which would give better sound also (it easily sounds better to 5.1 phono outs on my amp anyway).

Well I could buy a 3M optical cable... but it wouldn't stretch to the ~6M that I need and wouldn't connect to my hifi which doesn't have optical input! So all-in-all I doubt that would give me better sound.
Sorry to sound facetious, and thanks for the suggestion. I should really look to update my hifi to enable an optical input... but that's gonna cost more money (which I don't have!).

Ignore me
You can go optical to 10m (or more) with no problems at all.

Mike. ... but my hifi doesn't have an optical IN, just an optical OUT. Is there a device which can input an optical data stream, and split it into six channels for input to my hifi? That could be a valid option... if the wireless option is a no-go..?
Firstly I cant make all the cable disappear but might be able to get you down to 1 !
I did a similar project at my parents house, the only way I could do it was to use CAT5 data cabling and make up a breakout box at either end.
CAT 5 has 4 pairs of (usually solid copper) wires. I used 1 of the pairs as for the sub feed. and the remaining 6 for the other 5 speakers, 5 positives and a common ground. The brakout box was a simple plastic affair from maplins with phono connectors on.
Thw whole lot only cost me a few quid and did the job remarkably well.

Tx tmurphy... but my days of re-wiring are well over. That is the best suggestion I have heard so far though. I guess there is no such thing on the market to send DD5.1 / DTS signals via trasmitter / receiver, as currently exists for RF.
Perhaps a gap in the market for someone to exploit???
I think I'll be going for the whole hog... buy some extensions to my current six phono leads, and rip up the carpet, pull up some floorboards, and feed the six leads manually... shame. I was hoping if I could spend a hundred-quid-or-so I could go wireless... but it's not to be.
