View Full Version : Does anyone else think that Groundhog Day is crap?
Just wondering if I'm the only one
Please don't post here if you like the film and decide you want to flame me.

I love it! Flame on ;)
Anyone else retarded enough to ignore the first post ?
Do us all a favour and shut up. We've had enough of your moronic threads!
So let's get this straight. You've decided on a film you hate (though I suspect you know of its continuing popularity) and all you want in return is to meet up with fellow haters with whom you can exchange these 'views' ? Mmm. I'll watch the debate with interest.
What a mug!
How can u expect to put across a point of view and seriously expect people who don't agree to not say anything!?
I think it's a very good comedy - my opinion - anyone who differs can feel free to say what they like.

I will shut up, cos I'm bored of reading you even worse moronic replies

I'm just trying to find out if I am the only one who thought the film wasn't all people hype it up to be. Theres alot on these forums that like it, I've not got anything against them (except maybe nc who appears to be turning into a vendetta against myself). Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I was just wondering if on this instance my opinion was unique.

I didn't expect it, just thought I'd put it to see what kind of reaction it got.
Mods You may as well close this and my Rob Scheider thread.

So is this where you got your idea to post your 'Does anyone else think The Godfather is Crap' thread then?

I like it alot, and regardless of what some people say, Bill Murrey is a genius providing he's got the right material to work with.

I agree!
Groundhog Day is pants.
Since it's billed as a comedy, it might have been a good idea to put some jokes in. In the end, the only thing that made me chuckle was the fact that the place was called Gobbler's Knob.
Well it appears I'm not the only one who didn't like. Instead of turning this thread into a flame war against myself, like many of you are trying. Lets try to have a proper discussion about this film. Instead of the the "Groundhog Days crap", "well that make you a trolling moron" thats happening at the moment.
Personally I felt the film dragged. It became very tedius very quickly. For me theres only so many times you can watch the same joke before it becomes unfunny (With the exception of the Uncle @@@@er song in South Park) :D.
When watching the film for the first time when it was released (I was about 15 then) I thought it was amusing, but definitly not as funny as Quick Change or What About Bob (Murray's two earlier films).
The second time I watched it was when it was first broadcast on terrestial TV About 95/96). The thing that hit me this time was that there were so many mistakes. It appeared that no matter what he did, he bumped into the same people at the same time. For me the funniest thing in the film was his ex-school mate (can't remember his name but the actor is called Stephen Somthingunprouncable)
I haven't seen it since, but it appears in the past I've obviously missed the 'big picture' when it comes to this film. I'll try to watch it again this week and let you know what I think of it then.
For all you Groundhog Day fans, please let me know what you feel is good about the film and why I've been missing out.

Mods please move this and similar threads to the I'm bored and have no mates forum

That's because the days are edited highlights of the thousands of times he lives through this day. He also makes a conscious effort to meet the same people and see how he can change their reactions to him.

I loved Groundhog Day
One of a few films that make me laugh out loud.

Mate, are you deliberately trying to antagonise forum members?
That's not a good idea mate plus it makes you look like an idiot (which I'm sure you're not).

I assure you I'm not trying to antagonise the other forum members. I really didn't enjoy Groundhog Day but it has this huge following, all I'm trying to do is understand what I've missed out. Instead I'm getting flamed with comments from nc and Boogerman to name but 2.
We've had threads like this regarding the Matrix recently. In those it was quite clear tha the forums are split. Many people like the Matrix, however theres probably an equal amount that don't like it. Before vauxmad and Lenny Nero said anything about 12:01 I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one who genuinly didn't like Groundhog Day.
OK, my Rob Schneider thread was a bit of a joke, but he has the same background to Bill and even looks similar (It's the hair that does it). But this thread started out as a flame war against me (not that I wanted that of course). I'm trying to turn this thread around into a proper discussion about 'the standout comedy of the 90's'. I really like comedy's so how come I found this one unfunny and tedius ??

I agree in that the same joke can become tedious if it's played out over and over again but I'd certainly add Bill Murray to your very short list of exceptions. He's one of these actors who can make many unfunny jokes funny, and funny jokes even funnier.

There's a lot of comedy actors that have come out of Saturday Night Live and gone on to films careers. A lot bring baggage with them (cult following) which helps them bring in box office takings. I personally love(d) Chris Farley, however, many don't and I think the same goes for Schneider and other ex-SNL comedians.
I like the film but then I'm a big Ramis / Murray fan. It was just another fine example of the abrasive irritable character that murry does so well.
Not me I think it's a great film and can't wait for the special edition due soon.
Please PLAY nice people!
IMHO, Bolch's post is just a bold and to the point statement from which I can only assume he is trying to initiate a response from people!
...now meanwhile back on topic!
I agree, for me the film was a let down. Im a big Murray fan, but this to me was just a dissapointment!..a prime example of the trailer showing all the best bits

GroundHog day is IMO one of my favourite films - certainly one of the few comedies along with The Jerk, Meet The Parents, Airplane and KingPin that make me laugh no matter how many times I watch it.
Bill Murrays performance is just perfect, has anyone ever been more sarcastic in a film - just the type of humour I like. Its also quite a touching movie in parts, where Bill is just so fed up he continually tries to kill himself in desperation, and where he tries to save the homeless man from dying.
Its also a great romantic film, with a really feelgood ending.
I love this movie.

I just watched this for the first time. Love the concept and I've seen it applied to a few modern films/tv series. I'll admit, it's a little dated now and quite retro. Not really a fan of MacDowell either. However, it is a well made film, nice storyline and Murray was brilliant. You really feel for him. Never heard of this Harold Ramis fellow... might see what else he's got to offer.

Wow this must be close to the oldest resurection of a thread.
May as well add my two penneth anyway. Loved the film initally and thought it was a classic but after a few view in later years I think it has not aged to well.

Seriously? You never seen Ghostbusters?

I would not call Groundhog Day as crap but I would not want to see it more than once. I certainly would not waste money buying a DVD. It is, at best, mildly interseting and 'different' but nothing more. And I cannot stand Bill Murray - one in a long line of self-indulent, unfunny American "comedians"

Maybe in bits on TV when I was younger... Can't really remember.
Will add a few titles on my lovefilm account.
Wow. Well, that's certainly worth a watch! Enjoy!

Watched it once when it Premiered on Sky Movies and thought it was great. However, I only watched Napolean Dynamite once and I thought that was decidedly meh.
I know where you'r coming from Bolch, sometimes when you dislike a movie which everyone else loves you wonder if you should post to express your distain but sometimes you just have to.
