You have told us how much you value Barclaycard Extended Warranty particularly on higher value purchases. As a result we are changing the service by increasing the benefit you receive on higher priced appliances and raising the minimum purchase price from £50 to £150. So, purchase almost any new household appliance for £500 or more, on or after the 14th June 2004 in the UK with your Barclaycard and you can register for 2 years FREE Barclaycard Extended Warranty. Purchases between £150 and £499.99 can be registered for 12 months FREE.
good that you get longer for the more expensive items, but not so good for less expensive stuff anymore.
they're also removing the free 60 day insurance though :suspect:

ah, wondered what you meant by free 60 day insurance... its this:Most items you buy on the high street or online with Barclaycard are covered against theft and accidental damage for 60 days, providing it's not already covered. This service is being withdrawn. All purchases made before the 14th June 2004 will be covered under the current terms. and, to be honest, i never knew about it in the first place
think i'll be buying any electrical stuff a bit before then just to make sure i'm covered with the insurance - will someone raise this thread about a week before that date incase it slides into the nethers and i forget all about it please? :)
glad they've given warning of this anyways :) thanks for the heads up jonathan_d
Thats a bloody big rise from £50 to £150 like 200% dont like the idea of that at all :(
"You have told us how much you value something. So we're going to make it a bit crap..."
Typical British business - cut down some customer benefits and dress it up as something the customers asked for! :cuckoo:

Hmm....I think it's time to switch to a different credit card - extended warranty was a major selling point for me and just about every other CC company offers purchase cover. Does anyone have any recommendations for another bank/CC company which provides the same kind of extended warranty service and purchase cover. I don't really care about interest rates - I try to avoid spending money on CC if I can't pay the balance in full at the end of the month.

This is a worsening in the deal for consumers but I reckon Barclaycard is still worthwhile due to the Price Match. And Most (okay, not all) appliances/decent sized tvs etc cost over £150 anyway so might not be too bad overall...
Agree that they should have left well alone, tho.

If you don't need to worry about the interest rate then it's worth considering a cashback credit card. I use American Express Blue (2% for the first 3 (?) months then 1%). As it's Amex there are a few places that don't take it (e.g. Play.com) so I use a More Than mastercard as a backup - this gives 0.8% cashback. Doesn't sound much but it all adds up over a year to give a welcome credit on your bill each anniversary of opening the account.
