I would be most appreciative if any of you can suggest anything else I can do for the following problem...

I have a digitheatre and a Toshiba 3109.

The digitheatre runs fine in test mode (the hisses go round the room fine) but when connecting the dvd player to the digitheatre by a coaxial cable no sound come out at all.

I have set the digitheatre to receive digital and AC-3 and the digitheatre is set to DVD mode and AC-3. On the DVD player the player is set to output Bitstream which covers coaxial according to the manual.

I have tried using a different coaxial cable but still no joy. What would you suggest I try from here?

If i suspected the decoder part of the digitheatre to be knackered how easy would it be to get a replacement?

Thanks in advance

Before you give up on the decoder - try unplugging the power for a few hours.
Mine has been playing up recently. After unplugging the power for a few hours it started working again. That was a couple of months ago, now its playing up again and removing the power hasn't helped.
With mine the speaker test does not work correctly though. front left also comes out of surround left too (right channel is the same).Centre does not work at all :(

Seeing as your speaker test works OK, your problem could be at the DVD player. My player has in its set-up mode the options for dolby digital/pcm or stream/pcm .The stream is for DTS output. If you had a DTS DVD in the player (when set to bitstream) it probably only outputs the DTS track (so no sound on the digitheatre)unless you select the DD sound track.

cheers for that simes...

I was trying to watch a non dts movie and i had no luck. I did notice just some minor crackly noise coming through the speakers corresponding to the effect of text being written during the movie.

Could be the dvd player I suppose but i can't see a cheap way to find that out :)

i have tried another coaxial cable and there is no luck, just tried a portable dvd player on it using an optical cable between the two, not sure if I am setting the portable up right to output correctly so ill post back when i find the manual :)

This might be really obvious, but its a reason why I couldn't get any sound through mine.

Make sure that Input Selection is not pressed in, and that DVD Mode IS pressed in :)
