Got my Die Hard boset yesterday.
Put the first disc in my Tosh2109, switched the amp (Yamaha A5) on, selected DTS, and the branching version, and all I got was 5.1.
Used the audio button on my dvd control and got 5.1 (pcm and usual settings) and foreign sound, but no DTS.
Selected DTS again from the main menu, and this time got the usual "piano strings" sequence with no sound. Pressed the audio button and it confirmed DTS 6.1.
Pulled the amp and dvd out, checked the cables, and noticed that the amp to dvd cable for dts (can't think of the proper name off) was slightly bent where it had been pushed towards the back of the tv cabinet.
Could a slight bend cause a problem?
All my DTS discs refuse to play in dts without fiddling (eg button pressing, cursors, switching things off and on), or could it be something to do with having my ntl digibox in scart2 in tv, not dvd player (dvd in scart1) as no problems occured before getting this?

If your cable from the DVD to Amp is an optical one then a kink could well have broken the fiber.

No, it's coax......won't touch optical and anyway, my player doesn't have optical out.

If it's co-ax you will have crushed the dielectric wich would degrade the signal and possably cause reflections. It may be worth trying a replacement to see if you get sound.

What's wronc with opticle? I have no real experiance with HI-FI but my opinions come from my experiance with networking. I've seen other people saying that you get better performance from co-ax why/how?

If I've got this totally wrong feel free to slate me, but is the 2109 actually capable of outputting a dts bitstream ? I know it's quite an old player (in DVD hardware terms, anyway :) ), but irrespective of whether you select dts on the audio menu on Die Hard, and irrespective of the fact your A5 can decode dts, the problem would seem to lie with your player.

Judging by the fact there is no menu option for dts on your player, that would appear to be the reason.

Hope I'm way off the mark, for your sake :D

My player has no problems with DTS. It does output it nicely as I've had/got loads of DTS discs. It's only recently I've been having problems. I didn't use my dvd player much over the summer, yet before that, I put a disc in, selected dts and there it was. The Mummy Returns was the first disc I bought for a couple of months and this was problematic. The only thing that has changed is my NTL digibox in scart 2 on the tv or possibly cable problems.
I'm going to change leads to see what happens.
