OK, tired of budget players and their limitations and foibles.
What's best for £380.
Must haves
----------
1) Stable high quality playback - no glitches or frame drops.
2) RGB SCART.
3) Multiregion and RCE friendly.
4) DD and DTS digital out.
Nice to haves
-------------
1) Macrovision disabled.
2) Component video out.
3) Quick layer change.
4) Silver colour.

Pioneer DVD545 from UGH looks the biz. Good price too. :)
Any others I should consider?

Pricerange you are looking at means you should consider the Pioneer DV646A, available just in that budget under forums offer:)

Justin: You are a tempter and demon laughing at my credit card! :)
I sent an email to UGH technical at the weekend indicating that I need to return my recently purchased Toshiba 110. Unfortunately, the motor seems to have a fault - keeps spinning down and then up again once it's been running for a while resulting in the picture freezing and then restarting. :/
I've decide to get something more upmarket and i'd more or less settled on the Pioneer DV-545 until you chirped up with that oh so tempting 646A. :)
I can't really afford to get into DVD-A at the moment so other than that and the onboard decoder, what does the 646A offer over the 545?

Ron,
do you know if Zeus audio still have a store in Belfast?
They used to have one in Dungannon as well-Thats where I bought my yamaha home cinema back in 1992-They were very exspensive-but had an excelent sound room.
I'm sticking with UGH and hope to get the 646 A.
Cant believe I've avoided DVD for so long-feel movies on Sky are too old though and repeated too much and have cancelled that.

megabyte: I remember Zeus well. Don't know if they are still going. Give directory enquiries a buzz.

Will do Ron,
These sound rooms are great for research, and for advice, was so happy with the Yamaha stuff that I've kept it so long.
Its Dolby pro logic though and not as I'm finding out 5.1 or DTS-hence, the need for the all singing all dancing DVD player:p
hope I'm right in thinking that on board decoders will do the job when sent through the yamaha dspa1000:confused:
Work very hard though-need a treat:D

Yeap, Toshibas are now a joke for reliability, and I`m considering dropping the ENTIRE range. Ron,, sure we can work something out for the difference on the Dv646A.
Word of advice for any forum members considering a Toshiba SD210 or 110, DON`T BOTHER! Buy a Panasonic, Sony or Pioneer instead!!!
Cheers

Hi Justin-I sent a few e-mails into UGH-and all replied to this morning-I had so many questions and changes of mind that I'm worried it might all get a bit confusing!(replies from Paul)
I have now ordered the DV 646A from you.
question on Amps-The DSP A1000 I am using , will I have to upgrade to get the full benefit from the 646A ?
ie: why would you need a decoder for 5.1 and dts in the Amp if you have one in your DVD player?
Sorry if the question sounds silly to some-but I'm only learning and am still new to the subject
Thanks
Conn
