View Full Version : [Multi] Fight Night 2004
anyone played it yet?
Its quite good, the control system took a little getting used to. I think it would have been better if they had an over the shoulder style cam (like the old Punchout games) then the controls would be used as the direction on screen.
The only downside so far is the awful soundtrack, whoevers idea it was to replace normal entrance themes with garbage gangster rap needs to be shot! :gag: ... luckily they are easily muted! :D
Played a demo of it and was quite impressed with it. Will be looking forward to getting it when it comes out.
Cheers
Looks top this, can't wait for it :)
after playing it more I have to say this is the best boxing game ever! (soundtrack excluded)
The recovery method is is a nice touch, instead of bashing buttons you see the ref through double vision and have to align his image, its not easy though and I switched on auto-getup in the end. :D
The control wasnt the easiest thing to learn (lost about 10 fights early on in career) but I can weave and jab great now and it lets you easily tie combos together like a pro!
anyone know why Prince Naz isn't in the game? Im guessing he may still be liscenced to Codemasters.
Didn't think naz was around these days :searchme:
Does look amazing. I thought EA being EA, might bodge this one up but looking at the reviews, it looks promising. The control method sounds interesting.
What exactly is the camera angle if not over the shoulder?

I don't think he's retired, has he? Lewis is there but his stats are rubbish. :( Ali is in there too, so its not just active boxers list.
Thought it was abysmal - stupid announcer and the total fight system made me nearly go beserk!

I agree with the "stupid announcer" EA love all this Hip-Hop rubbish! :gag:
Bloody announcer is awful :gag: Could've gotten a real commentator in for god sake :oh-hum:
Other than that the gameplay seems superb  Haven't had a go at career mode yet but i've played a few exhibitions. The hardest thing i think about the total punch control is the defense.
There's quite a few different areas the opponent can attack (as oppose to head or body in past games) which makes it tough to defend quickly.
The cut-scenes on knock-downs are really brutal :D Slow-downs just as you make contact, blood flies everywhere...
Great stuff!
Whens it out in the UK?
I presume it'll be best for Xbox?

Not according to Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/sports/fightnight2004/index.html)
Oh, maybe because it'll be online for PS2. :searchme:

I never use block, if you get the hang of just weaving around (hold L) you'll rarely get touched, and theres nothing better then swaying under an oppenents swing and delivering the finishing uppercut! :)

Having just picked this up I thought I'd ressurect this thread. I've now got to wait till I get home to try this out but it certainly looks good. I'm a big fan of Rocky (superb multiplayer fun) and will be interested to see how this compares. I'm assuming that this will be less arcadey than Rocky but hopefully no less fun.

Rocky was well overrated in my opinion, however the career mode was good the way it linked with the film. But as far as gameplay goes, Fight Night is far more complex. It's frustrating at first, but far more rewarding.
The create a boxer is very detailed, with new items available to be bought throughout your career (shorts, gloves, entrance movies).
My only gripe is the career mode seems to straight forward. It's not very dynamic, you just challenge a choice of guys and climb up the ladder. It might get better when i become champ.
This is a top game, hated it at first with a passion but once you get into it, it really is the gonads. Love it. A lot.

has anyone played an old game called 4D boxing ?
that was superb. Felt really sim like. Matches could last for ages, and u really have to watch yourself and pace yourself during matches or u would just get so tired and your life rejuvenates much slower later on. It was great.
Is this game similar ? would you call Fight Night a sim ?

Brilliant. I think also if you change to control 3 it feels slightly easier imo. Only camera angle not sure which is best?
Just bought this so will be busy most of the wkend.:)

No GC either ? :(
[Multi] was a bit misleading :D
WOW !! by far the best Boxing game i've played on any system let alone the xbox
GREAT MULTIPLAYER FUN !!
Thumb was killing me after a few games so I dont bother with the analogue stick punch system so just changed the layout and went for old button bashing routine on A,B,X,Y buttons instead.
by the way I thought the soundtrack was OK i dont mind a bit of RnB Hip Hop but yes the Commentator was tripe:nono:
Was a bit dissapointed to get retired after reaching 5th in the world with Roy Jones Jr- oh well will try again with better technique:thumbs: perfect that Uppercut:clap:
So I bought the PS2 version for online Gameplay because Gamespot said it featured it and it doesnt even have it.
And how do I alter the pciture to fit the screen properly, its all very left-sided!

Just beat Roy Jones Jr to clinch the heavyweight title.
Talk about boring. The games just too repetative.
Bloody announcer is getting on my thruppenys, as is the music.
Started out enjoying it, but after 40 fights ive now had enough.

Yes Career was a dissapointment, still makes for great multi-player and hopefully the sequel will work on the single player mode.
Really starting to get use to the controls now which makes it great to play.
Also Ive always done my own training, but I still cant get the hang of that Heavy Bag, any tips on how to get things right? I do so poorly on it every time and its restricting my ability to increase my power and speed.

Yeah, the heavy bag is solid. I'd say, as it's swinging, give it a hook just as it's dead center. Then same again when it comes back down to send it the other way.
Just got this for Xbox, and really enjoying it. Which control method you prefer, stick to punch or buttons?
Stick to punch :) by far. Great game.

Tats to that, keep your finger on the L button, sway and avoid their punches and uppercut the hell out of them.

start of March!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited its untrue. You can move and punch, heal your cuts in between rounds and do haymakers! Can't wait start light then win every title and go up a weight division then win that title then go up a wait division.....etc
just look on gamespot for some screen shots and a teaser trailer
Or IGN :D Fight Night Round 2 (http://xbox.ign.com/objects/718/718414.html?ui=gamefinder)
Sounds like they've improved just about everything I thought was lacking. Traditional commentator, "flash knockdowns" which were pretty rare and an improved career mode.
Can't wait!
And online play!
Oh wait, EA... Online play... ?

Heavy bag is easy! It's all in the timing. Use Uppercuts and just find the rhythm.
Sparring on the other hand is hard as.

Wasnt online play on the PS2 version in America and they removed it from European release.
I thought we were talking about 2005 now? 2004 was online on PS2 I think.
Not in Europe it wasnt. Unless they forgot to put it on my disc. :D

Yep that's right, sorry getting confused with 2005 here. We need a new thread for 2005 :D
