Hi Guys,

Recently moved into my Penthouse Apartment  and got all the TV and HC sorted. Tivo is installed too but I don't want a phone line in (Mainly because BT want to charge the earth £75 for a connection!!!) as they are an unneccesary expense.

Is there any way of getting listings onto it other than brining it to work every two weeks and connecting it here?

Seems like a ballache! Also is it easy to record things with times rather than actually using the listings?

I've heard rumours that you can get online updates using the TurboNet ethernet card thingy, don't know the details though.

Setting it to record by time is just like with a VCR (ie a pain in the arse :) ).

Also, do you have anything that looks like a BT socket? If so it won't cost you £75, that's the cost of a whole new line being layed in, and usually BT just quote the £75 thing cos their records are cack and they like to cover themselves. :suspect: :suspect:

Yeah, you can use a turbonet card to network TiVo to your PC - but it'll cost you around £50 and the headache of installation and configuration etc., but once it's up and running it's supposed to be the dog's danglies.. :dork:

Mind you, you'll still need a phone line installed otherwise how would you pull the listings from the Web..?

ps. it's an ex-authority flat really, isn't it? - c'mon admit it..

my tivo has a network card plugged in with a wireless client providing its connectivity. I use a wireless ADSL router to provide its link to the net and a wireless PC card for admin\control\extraction to the tivo ... obviously I have the phone line already there to provide my adsl connection but the tivo doesn't live any where near an extension. Do you not have a phone line at all then ... isn't £75 for a complete fresh install, its less than that to re-connect if the wires\master socket are already there ???

Indeed - without a phone line of some sort or a cable box acting as a modem you can't get hold of any data in the first place.

My Tivo uses the WiFi card for Tivo (Airnet) and that pulls data from the ADSL router. I need the BT line for ADSL of course though...
Check out my Link for upgrade info on Airnet if you are interested.

Brand new 2 bed apartment and even though it has BT sockets, BT still reckon the the cabing is not installed between the sockets and the exchange.

£74.99 is the install fee and then everything on top. I use Broadband very little these days and the phone is of no use to me whatsoever.

May have to cancel the Tivo subscription and Sky now then.

No need to cancel sky as EPG is updated by satellite, the phone line is for interactive services only
