Nice. :oh-hum: Timed to coincide with Blake being tried for the murder of his second wife. And I thought I was cynical.
Time is evidently ripe to pitch my idea for OJ to star in a re-make of Dial M for Murder.

OK just nabbed the soundtrack (which is pretty rare), thank god it is being distributed in the UK.
... Ok where is this planned release ?
I have only seen it once, and that was a few years back. And my memory is fading, all i remember is that it was a great movie.
If you search amazon.com for 'Robert Blake' it brings up titles like "The Ladykillers", "This Gun for Hire" and "In Cold Blood" :|

Boom Boom! (went the gun).

From the review anyone else intrigued by the following:
'It's nearly impossible to see a performance by Robert Blake now without it being overshadowed by his current legal difficulties'.

He's accused of murdering his wife; not sure if it's come to trial yet.

Art imitating life imitating Lost Highway...
The evidence against Blake is all highly contaminated (in the trial thus far) with people perjuring/contradicting themselves so he may well be "innocent" *ahem*

Just got an e-mail alert that says:...
"Actor Robert Blake was found not guilty today of murder in the 2001 shooting death of his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley. In addition to murder, Blake, 71, was acquitted of one count of solicitation to commit murder but the jury deadlocked on a second solicitation count. The 12-member jury deliberated eight days before reaching its decision. "
So maybe we're all clear for a R1 'Lost Highway' and 'Electra Glide...' et al

I think KC's referring to possible Blake involvement in future releases of his films.
After all the brickbats I've tossed in the direction of MGM in recent years, it's good to see they've done a fine job with Electra Glide in Blue. My copy arrived this morning and I'm very pleased with both the quality of the print - virtually free of marks and dirt after a quick dash through it - and the transfer. And - gasp - we actually have some extras in the shape of an introduction by director James William Guercio and what sounds like an entertaining and informative commentary.
Great also to see Billy Green Bush...it's still only $9.98 at DVD Soon (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://www.dvdsoon.com/index.xml^QS^partner_id=10040)...

I must admit I hadn't been following EGIB news but there was speculation on Dugpa and the HTF that a US release of Lost Highway had been sidelined by Universal due to the 'controversy' surrounding one of its stars.
I only posted on this thread since the search function threw it up as the most active one releating to Mr.Blake.

Just watched EGiB today - lovely presentation...
And an incredibly depressing film. Wonderful... just very depressing.
watched it this morning
it's been a good 16-odd years since I last saw it - absolutely stunning
You know, I always wondered why the director of Electra Glide in Blue, James Guercio, had a very familiar sounding name. I just went though a bunch of old LP's only to discover that he was a member of Frank Zappa & the Mothers of Invention back in the sixties.
Now, how about that for trivia :n0rty:

Does anyone know if the new UK dvd is the uncut version or whether it's the same as the US version?

This is the first time I've heard the US version is cut. Do you have any more details?
This is need to be released in HD! Monument Valley looks wonderful.
I guess the R1 isn't so much "cut" as just not the "director's version".
From the dvdtimes review from 2005 (http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=56908):
MGM’s Region 1 release is generally very good, though it has a couple of drawbacks. In his commentary, Guercio implies that he wasn’t involved in the picture and sound transfer (he says at one point that he doesn’t know if this edition is his cut or not). As it happens, this DVD is the version that was released with a PG rating in the United States, though even in this version the MPAA’s idea of a PG is more lenient than the BBFC’s, given some beatings and gunshot wounds. The BBFC gave Electra Glide a X certificate (over-eighteens only) in the cinemas, and maintained an 18 for a video certification in 1988. As it happens, overseas we had a version with an extra couple of shots, side views of a bullet impact and blood spurt in the final sequence, which Guercio was obliged to cut as it was considered too violent. I suspect this version would earn a 15 from the BBFC nowadays. The new UK release is an 18 as it hasn't be resubmitted as far as I can tell.
