Hello all :)
right, i've been into Robert Johnson for some times now, i listen to the complete works at least once a week, and i just bought King of the Delta Blues Singers off eBay but im gettin a bit bored, as his entire recording total is 41 songs, and about half of them are redone versions of other songs. I even got the Eric Clapton album, his new one, Me and Mr Johnson, which is good, but it's not the same.
i really like the music, and im wondering if anyone can recommend any other artists with the same sort of style and sound...
thanks

You could try some stuff by Lonnie Johnson, iirc he was a big influence on Robert Johnson

Absolutely! Get the Chess boxset - 3x Discs of Howlin' Wolf, superb. But Wolf is a bit full-on when compared to Johnson so if you're looking for the haunted sound of delta blues, you'd be best going for Son House, Charley Patton and Leadbelly. There are collections available for all of them in the manner of King of the Delta Blues Singers.
sweet jesus! don't forget Skip James!
Devil Got My Woman, the 1930's version, is quite possibly the greatest recorded piece of music ever. although i have been know to exagerate...

Devil Got my Woman got me into Robert Johnson....
I heard it on Ghost World, and acquired the sound track. my dad heard me listening to Skip and asked me if i'd heard of Robert Johnson.
It's fantastic.
thanks for the suggestions, keep em coming!

Charley Patton. (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&uid=UIDCASS80311161020593320&sql=Baq6atra9kl3x)
I'd also go for Skip James. I'm a big fan of Blind Willie Johnson but he's quite different from Robert Johnson in that he only sung spiritual music and has a deep dravelly voice... Some of the best music ever made in my mind..
Check this thread (http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=278765) BTW and the current reviews we are doing at DVDtimes on the Scorcese series...

Look out for some Son House - different, but the same.
You'll see what I mean.
yep - forgot Son House. He's very different from Johnson guitar wise since he pulls and slaps the strings with tremendous vigour compared to Johnson's nimble fingerpicking style.
I can still remember when I managed to master RJ's They're Red Hot on the guitar - felt like I'd climbed Everest! :D

Beck's blues album 'One Foot in the Grave' is great, very raw and emotive.

The latest edition of Uncut magazine might be of interest to you. There's a selection of 15 blues tracks chosen by Clapton himself.

Right now I'm listening to Hubert Sumlin's Blues Party and it's brilliant! It took me 9 months to get hold of it but it was well worth the wait - sublime.
