View Full Version : Die Hard SE Trilogy + Tosh SD2109
Recently purchased Die Hard SE trilogy (R1) from DVDBoxoffice. Come to play it last night and I get sound only on the menus but not the film.
Is this a case that I need a DTS/Dolby Digital Amp for this player, before I can enjoy these films ?
Works fine on a Pioneer player without Amp.
No you dont need an amp to enjoy a film. Check your cables (SCART) and try another AV.
Try pressing (if you have one) your audio button on remote see if that does owt
Whitty. I have checked the obvious. Die Hard 2 seems to be fine.
The only version I tried of Die Hard 1 was the seemless branching version.
I wonder if it's a dud disc ?
Just to let you know that I've got these discs and a Tosh2109B, and it works perfectly fine for me.
Silly suggestion, but try some other region 1 discs that have DD and DTS on them, and see if they work. If they do, double check the Die Hards or send them back.
Played my Die Hard disc for the first time a while ago and no problems there (just my amp being awkward with dts - might be a bad cable in my case).
The discs default to 5.1 (no amp, no sound?) don't they? Change the audio to surround or whatever and that should work if you've no amp.
I have a Tosh 2109 and it works fine on mine. Dodgy disc mate?
Ummm..... Unfortunately there is no Dobly Surround option available.
I seem to recall another R1 disc doing this to me when I selected the DTS track option instead of Dolby 2.0 surround.
My player is a SD2109E chipped for multi region.
Had the player for nearly 2 years now.
But why would the seemless branching version work fine on a Pioneer 525 ? Which begs the question is the disc faulty ?
Anything I can check for in the players set-up ?
Are you saying you get sound in the film with the Pioneer but not the Toshiba or have I misunderstood?
Just put the Die Hard in my Tosh2109, with the amp off, and there's sound during the film. Pressing the audio button says 5.1, but it's coming through the tv without problem (probably analog or surround?). I went through all the audio channels inc bitstream, pcm, analog and all play (exactly the same) through the tv.

Nope. You havn't mis-understood. My sister owns a Pioneer 525 again without an Amp attached. Seemingly my player is a Tosh 2109, and the disc wasn't producing sound when playing the film. I thought I'd try it in my sisters machine. And hey presto it works fine on a Pioneer. What is weird is that the Menus produce sound and I get the THX sound promo before the film. But after that it's lip reading time, on my tosh.
Well. I have just tried Die Hard 1 again. Again no sound, on either the Seemless Branching version or the original version. Tried again, pressed the Audio button on my remote just as the film was starting to play, and the player completely locked up on me. Had no choice but to pull the plug, disconnected all the leads and re-connected again. Switched the player back on again. Disc span up, got to the menus. Selected the normal version of the film to play. Whilst the THX logo started up, pressed the 3D-Sound button and changed to on. Hey presto, the film started playing but this time with sound.
Went back to the menus, and re-started the film but with seemless branching. I also have sound on that.
Weird!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can't understand it. Tried DH2 after DH1 and the no sound problem, and it played with sound.
Oh well. I know what to do if this happens again.
