amazon.co.jp has it back in stock...ordered it this morning. Cost me $64.00 US shipped. I used the 500YEN off coupon listed in the bargain thread (new customers only).

I was the first person on the Forums to nab a copy (I think :suspect: ) and I wouldn't pay the price Yesasia are currently charging.

Bill Geiger...yep working now after installing, now i have a question mate ... i'm at the page entering my credit card details in and it asks for my name then something called "Furigana" what the heck is that ?
EDIT - took a gamble and entered my email addy.... worked !!
thanks for the tip mate...really appreciate it... the costs worked out like this :
Items: ¥ 6,080
Shipping & Handling: ¥ 900
Total: ¥ 6,980
Promotion Applied: -¥ 500
so whats 6,480 yen in real money then ?
aha edit again...just checked conversion rate (must be wrong surely?)
Wednesday, March 31, 2004
6,480 Japanese Yen = 33.60647 British Pound
6,480 British Pound (GBP) = 1,249,474 Japanese Yen (JPY)
can't believe i was seriously considering yesasia's price of over 」100...i love you guys
I thought I'd convinced myself I didn't want this, but just caved in and cancelled my order for the standard version and gone for it :dork:
Even with the expected customs charge it's a damn sight cheaper than yesasia.
Dear Mr Echo
31-03-2004, 22:02
I don't know what Furigana is either but I just put my daughter's name in and it accepted my order OK (with the ・500 off coupon) - came to about 」33.65 inc (・6485).

hehe...if enough peeps read this it may get moved to bargain forum
bit depressing though that if i hadn't asked the question here i may well have forked out over a 」100 which even with the expected customs sting, must be over a 50% saving.
(initial price i refered to in original post was : Ref. Price: 」115.96)
and now we are talking under 」34 ..... (aprox of course)

Furigana is used for Japanese names only and is a Hiragana representation of the Kanji (the Chinese character set used in Japan) characters for purposes of phoenetic pronunciation. Usually a person's name is written in kanji, and as the kanji could have more than one meaning/pronunciation, furigana is used to distinguish the name.
So in a word "No", you do not need to enter furigana... just enter your name with its usual spelling if it is a required field.
If the price is roughly 」35, what's the customs hit likely to be on this, anybody know?
I'm tempted, but not if it's going to run over 」50.
Furigana - is the name you wish to be addressed by if they ring you. So really I suppose you should put your first name, or your surname and title.

R1 review here. (http://www.thedigitalbits.com/reviews3/killbillv1.html)
Remember those importing from stores other than Yesasia that customs may not only be interested in charging you import duty but this set contains a replica sword that will be around knife size so they may well open them for examination or worse still confiscate the lot. Luckily Yesasia take all of this risk themselves by re-shipping within the UK. Regardless of where you order from I'd stick this on a credit card in case you need to claim later.
OK, so i have an order in the Senasian which is around 59GBP delivered. My question is......
if i cancel this and re-order with amazon.co.jp, do they have gaurenteed stock??? My order with sensasian is guaranteed s i don't want to cancel and then order with amazon only for them to tell me they have run out.

I am probably getting a little pedantic here, but the term "furigana" actually refers to the hiragana characters you sometimes see sitting atop words written in kanji (chinese characters) - as I said before, this is because the same kanji can have more than one pronunciation; so yes, it would make sense that this would be so that the people at Amazon know how to address you over the phone phoenetically :D (pardon the pun). For we anglos, as we write our name in what the Japanese call romaji (romanised text), there is no real need for us to enter anything in the furigana field (unless of course it is mandatory in which case just enter you first name).
Sorry if this has taken the thread off track a little, but hopefully it might be of some use if anyone is thinking of placing a first order at Amazon Japan some time in the future.

Hopefully there will be another nice boxset which has both parts of the film and other goodies.

this is a good thought. I'm not even sure I'm going to be buying the matrix boxset myself unless they're going to add scenes or do something really unexpected with it. vol. 2 will out in a couple of weeks and I'll wait to see it before reserving judgement on whether or not I need to get both.

Quite scary that. But why is yesasia better (Is it just the re-ship ability)? Considering they are charging around 」115 for something people can get for about 」35 from Amazon.co.jp i don't see the extra cost is worthwhile unless you're garanteed to get your set unmolested and no charge on top. If they take the box they take it and it'll happen with yesasia goods too perhaps? And surely Amazon offer refunds or some kind of compensation? How does this work?

....a small point, but you're forgetting the almost certain addition of VAT and Import Duty on that price pushing the price close to 45 quid - plus there's the probability that Royal Mail's handling fee will be added - I've been stung for 7 quid b4. Still agree though, I wouldn't pay Yesasia's price when I could have it for about half that from Amazon Jp (although DVDslimited price of 60 quid is not bad tbh in comparison and you haven't the worry of Customs mauling the package either)
Out of stock at Amazon now, or at least, I think so...
This commodity is not suitable for the exhibition to Amazon market place. This commodity which it is about it will be reserved and to order presently has become procurement failure at Amazon market place. There is no excuse. Please search the related commodity in the detailed page of this commodity. Clicking the link under, please advance.
Japlish rules!
Providing Customs don't get hold of this and leave it untouched (yeah right!!), how long do you think it will take to arrive to the UK from Amazon.jp?
If customs do get it, how long would they keep it for?
My orders from Amazon Japan have taken between 8 & 10 days normally. That's with the standard delivery option. Not bad really. :)
If customs nab it, then it depends how busy they are as to how long they keep it. ;)
********* have it for 」99.99!

Write them at English@amazon.co.jp (all non-english amazons use the English@amazon.xx adress for English queries) with the order number and refer to the email you received, and ask them what to do.
The two times I've needed to contact them they've replied within a day, and been very helpful.

The AmazonJP price was suggested retail, less 20%, which is what they normally do for hot preorders (I believe the 100 hottest in each cathegory; Dvds, books, cds etc).
All other Asian etailers I checked when it first became available had similar prices (except for the 20%), but when they had sold out the sets they were promised from their distributors, they found other suppliers (who were selling at retail, close to retail, or at an extra mark-up), which led to very inflated prices.

Edit- Did you get an Email from them confirming your order with them?
To anyone who want the Japanese Kill Bill LE, and haven't ordered it elsewhere (or want it cheaper or whatever), it's now available again and in stock (http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0001L269G/249-4972520-7721116) at amazonJP. Use the Y500 coupon mentioned from the amazon coupons-thread in the Bargains Forum if you haven't used amazonJP before.
Edit: Using the Y500 coupon, and with the cheapest shipping, it comes to about 」35 postpaid, but with a likely customs bill on top.

I don't think this has been mentioned yet... I wonder if it's true!?!
First up, according to the latest issue of Video Business, director Quentin Tarantino has big plans for both Kill Bill, Volume 1 and Volume 2 on DVD. The director has been quoted as saying that he cut an alternate version of Kill Bill, Volume 1 for release in Japan, that will be released in the States eventually. This version contains both new footage and omissions. He also plans to assemble a complete 4-hour version of both films together for art house theatrical screenings. Look for a multi-disc "major special edition" of both films on DVD, which may include significant deleted scenes (including the original introduction to the character of Bill, who originally fought Michael Jai White, as well as the original scene at the wedding chapel). Tarantino is also reportedly considering releasing additional stand-alone supplemental discs after the main DVD release. He was apparently inspired to do this by Universal's recent American Pie: Beneath the Crust DVDs.
Okay Quentin... we're ALL for a killer Kill Bill mega special edition, believe me. But the Beneath the Crust additional bonus disc idea is lame. Beneath the Crust did little but edit off fans who had already purchased multiple versions of the American Pie films on DVD - you could only get them by buying yet ANOTHER version of the films. Our advice is just release one massive special edition with everything, and if you really have to do more, wait for high-definition. Just our two cents.

As far as my Japanese ability goes, and with a bit of help from my various dictionaries. it appears it has been sent.
The first sentence is informing you (honoured person!!!), that you article has been sent.
Then it says that processing of your order is complete. Thank you for using Amazon.co.jp
Then theres a bunch of stuff about the cost breakdown etc etc.

3 years ago i wasnt allowed to bring a daywalker sword letter opener back from the usa? That's my only worry. I don't mind getting hit by their charges as even if they double the purchase price it'll still be way lower than jokers like ********* etc are selling it for.
My copy of the Jap Kill Bill was sent out by Amazon Japan on 10/03/04, with International Economy shipping.
Should I be worried about non-delivery?

How is that possible? It wasn稚 even released in Japan until this week.
hmm well if you buy R1 discs you might realise that some places hip up to 2 weeks before it's out in the shops.. sooooo.. i'd expect this is same in Japan.

I recieved mine from Yesasia yesterday. Majort disappointment, the best thing about it is the box, the T-shirt is really poor quality with a tacky motif , and the sword is like something from a Kinder chocolate egg.
what's the movie like you know int he house of blue leaves?
can anyone confirm if the house of blue leaves scene is colour, unlike the R3 version?
Actually, wont the standard edition jap release be the same print?
im not fussed about the t shirt & plastic toy.
The Dude
18-04-2004, 17:58
Yep the house of blue leaves scene is in colour. There are screencaps of that particular scene in colour if you wanted to take a look. I'll try and find you the link if you like. :)
http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=192926&pagenumber=3 for a few screencaps of the scene in colour. Obviously if any of you guys haven't seen the film before then don't click on the link as the pictures could be spoilers for you. The Jap R2 disc will be the same as you get with the Limited Edition set too as I forgot to answer that.
has anyone heard if anybody from uk etailers have received this yet? If i dont receive it today im not gonna be able to watch it until saturday:(
If someone receives this box set that was in the set of orders from yesasia at ~$80, can they post if they get one of the Ryder suits (the zip-up DVD cover case that looks like Uma tracksuit) please ! :)
Am I right in thinking that you need to understand japanese to get the uncut version? Which is not many people in the UK.
Firstly the box would be non-comprehensible, which is not a great deal, but what about the menus?
As for the film, I understand there is an English soundtrack, but there will be subtitles. If you can turn these of, there would be none for the large number of Japanese speaking parts. Which would be pointless watching the film.
Is this wrong then I am sorry? If it is right then I really don't understand why so many are going for this - except those that understand Japanese. It's a bit silly to watch an enjoyable film for a bit of extra violence (it is violent anyway) but not be able to enjoy it. Sure - we all want to see it uncut, and I'm sure it will end up on R1.

The subtitle thing is not a big deal since you can switch them on for the Japanese speaking parts with the quick press of a button on the remote control (some people may find this a huge hassle but it honestly doesn't bother me).

Actually, it'd be down to both how the disc is authored and the player; Having forced subtitles, or subtitles that can only be switched on/off in the menu is down to how the disc is authored, but there are players out there that aren't stopped by 'Disabled User Action', as it's known in one of the authoring tools.

Umm. It is half a movie.

i try not to think of it as only being half a movie. Even if the second part was poo vol1 is still an excellent movie on its own. in a way its like saying The Fellowship of the Ring was only 1/3 of a movie even though its still an independent film

just received mine from DE:clap:
quick review.
the box itself comes with an outer plastic slipcase and the main packaging its hard cardboard, similar to the 24 double pack. very very high quality and very nice.
The sword is pretty poo, absolutely tiny but still a nice thing to have. The t-shirt is pretty nice, with good quality print and its size large. I havent been able to see what the bearbrick is like as the box is sealed and i dont want to wreck it.
The book comes inside the dvd case and although entirely in Japanese, still looks very nice.
The coolest thing however is definitely the jump suit, it looks awesome and certainly makes the whole set look fantastic.
Overall, its a fantastic, well put together set, its just a shame the sword wasnt bigger but its a minor critisism.
Cant wait to watch the film tonight:clap:

I'm fairly certain that no amazon.co.jp orders come with rider suits. After looking around other forums everyone who has received their orders from amazon didn't get it.
OK, matome from the DTDTalk forum (http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=358617&perpage=25&pagenumber=4) posted the differences R1 and R2 DVDs :
Here are my notes on the differences of the two discs. First off the runtime on the R1 disc is 1:50:36 and the R2 is 1:51:39, so we have an extra minute of footage in there.
On the R1 disc I noticed the layer change pause in the bathroom stall when the Bride peeks out to see Sofie. On the R2 disc, I have no idea where the change was since I didn't notice a pause anywhere.
The subtitles (when turned on manually) are always in the movie frame and not on the bars like the R1's are. However, they're just white now and don't have any distinction for Gogo and Sofie's subtitles like the original and R1 had. Not placed either, always centered. I like the R1's better.
I liked the menus on the R1 much better. The R2 has a cool intro but then begins to show scenes that give away too much IMO.
As for the differences that I could spot:
a) The Klingon quote at the beginning is replaced with a dedication title to Kinji Fukasaku
b) The first thing I immediately noticed caused me to run and check my R1 disc in parallel. It's a really wacky editing change that I can't figure out. When The Bride and Vernita first walking into the kitchen with the voiceover it's a ceiling-down shot. In the R1 it stays that way until Vernita hands the towel to The Bride and we go to a ground level shot. However on the R2 we get a cut to a closeup of the coffee cups being poured into then a ground level shot of the Bride asking for towels and Vernita going to the sink and picking them up. The dialogue is exactly the same so I have no idea what went on there.
c) In the anime section the guy who gets his arm snapped and head crushed into the wall by O-ren's dad, actually gets his head smashed twice with a nice closeup of it.
d) while O-ren is stabbing Matsumuto on the bed this is extended as she also says look at my nose, mouth, chin and all the while we get nice little shots of him gargling and the sword slowly moving up his chest. The far shot of her sitting on top of him is elongated and then we get a shot of him sliced open.
e) At the House of Blue Leaves when the chick from O-ren's original crew gets stabbed in the chest at the bottom of the stairs we get a closeup shot of her gargling then spurting.
f) as for the big fight I noticed quite a few additions to this so I had to stop my parallel run. I would say a good chunk of the restored footage was added here. There's also a quick reaction shot of Sofie again.
g) The camera click for the return to color scene in R1 is not sounded here and we get a quick shot of the Bride standing in defensive position right before the light switch is thrown on.
h) The camera doesn't cut back to Sofie in the hospital when the Bride yells "Give me your other arm!" and then she cuts it off at the elbow.
That's about alll the changes that I could find. I didn't want to post too many pictures in case of spoilers. Anyway, I'm certainly glad to have the R2 version now, since it gives the movie a little more spice. Not that I won't throw in the R1 once in a while, since I did find the B&W fight to be quite cool in it's own way.

Looks increasingly like the Jap version is the only way to go currently .....
I, seemingly, have two copies flying towards me. I ordered from CDJapan and they cancelled it, saying they'd sold out before I put my order in (but before they'd updated their site). I also ordered it from HMV.co.jp and that one got through. Then I had an email from both places saying my order had been sent out. Weird. Anyhow, maybe I'll get the jumpsuit with one of them. Either way, I'll have a spare to sell off for some money :)

I ordered them in February and they cost 」120 for both (inc. shipping and no customs charge).
I think I'll keep these two (one for my and one for the girlfriend) but I might be able to get my hands on another two copies which I might sell with the two track suit covers from the two I've already got.
Anyone know the price this set is going for with the track suit cover?

i'll take one off your hands, would you mind? how much would you like for them?
It is a serious offer by the way.
Wouldn't mind one of those tracksuit covers :dork: hope mine comes with one.

Well I've got to check that I can still get the other two copies and how much they'll cost me. But if I get them, I'll let you know. I'll probably sell them for the same price I get them for (with a little bit added for the extra track suit case) plus the p&p.
I'll contact you if I do... there was someone else on here asked way back in Feb but I've forgotten who it was. I'll have to check the 'Korean/Jap Limited Editions' thread and then I might be able to shift the other one.

Write them at English@amazon.co.jp (all non-english amazons use the English@amazon.xx adress for English queries) with the order number and refer to the email you received, and ask them what to do.
The two times I've needed to contact them they've replied within a day, and been very helpful.
Top man! Thanks for the info, I'll send an email tonight.

Back OT for this thread - IMHO this set really isn't worth the dosh. (Unless you are lucky to be only charged 28 quid and avoid customs/admin charges etc.)
I love the box it all comes in but that's as far as it gets.:oh-hum:
The DVD is acceptable - single disk fair though (albeit uncut etc.)
The poster is nothing to write home about - folded a million times obviously so therefore useless to display.
The Bearbrick is, quite frankly, laughable. Some placcy minature toy in a match box:confused: :cuckoo:
...and then we have the Sword - or should I say toothpick.:searchme:
wtf's all that about - I thought it'd be about 10cm long - not some crappy cracker type toy akin to those mini skateboards which are completely pointless. I mean, someone suggested it'd be nice on top of the TV - - yeah right  - fine if your TV is a 6" portable - ludicrous on a 14", nevermind a 32" :p
Suffice it to say mine is taking a trip to ebay heaven shortly - unless of course someone on here wants to pay me 70 quid for it?
edit....damn, missed the T-Shirt  - actually this looks as though it'll be Ok, still only a tenners worth IMO! (Did everyone get a large?)
well after that sales pitch who wouldn't want it :D
thats very true rogeralpine, but when someone pointed out DE were doing it for 」80 i couldnt resist.

..... exactly, advertised as one of the "collectors" pieces in the set - easy to miss though, eh Psycho? You're probably still too busy assembling your sword ready to practice some moves infront of the TV aren't you?:p
ps - you can have my poster for a fiver

I'm drunk! Where's my poster!!!
Psycho
just finished watching it and i must say, the house of blue leaves is so so good in colour, sadly though its not as gory as i would have liked.
i dont think i got a poster also, theres an advert inside the dvd case that shows the posters for vol 1 and 2 but i would say its a poster as such. Can someone take a photo of it?
Anybody who ordered standard shipping from Amazon.jp go their box yet?

has anyone had an Amazon Japan order come through yet? and if so, does it have the tracksuit cover?
Received mine from Sensasian today.
Can't decide whether to open it or not.
Is they any way of telling if the tracsuit thingy is inside without opening it?
the jap amazon has no tracksuit cover...got mine last week!
Was hoping for one of those from Amazon :dork:

The tracksuit cover isn't inside the DVD box set it's self. It's just a free thing you'd get over the counter if you got it in the shops. I think it was HMV Japan which was doing this. So if you haven't got it in you hand, then it wont be inside the DVD box set.
Well, as far as I know! :searchme:

spoilers below.....
well just watched the jap R2 version and can confirm all the 'extra' bits mentioed in the previous large spoiler a few pages back. Although its odd sofie getting her second arm cut off at the elbow (which you do see) as when she rolls down the hill to the hospital, you can clearly see a whole arm, and in slo-mo, you can see her hand a few times as she rolls. I wonder if this addition was removed from the western cut as this was obvious?
the fight in colour is superb, although i did miss the bit where it used to switch to B&W, but spotted the switch back point.
Definitly more gore, i don't remember quite as much as that (I also have the R1, so will have to check)
My Denon 3800 lets me switch subs on the fly, so if your machine lets you do this on other films, you'll be fine doing this here, easy to do.
all in all well worth a purchase - can't wait to see KB vol 2 in 18 hours time!!

Watched this last night and noticed that bit as well. Still, I thought it was a lot better film with the full colour fight!

The Sword is about 2.5 inches - prolly close to 4 inches with the handle. I was expecting it to be twice this length tbh - but I suppose at 1/10th scale, 4 inches is prolly about right.
All in I reckon this set is worth, retail, about 」35 (」40 tops) - as a collectors item though, I can see it being "worth" about 」60 to a fan at todays prices. It's probably worth more than that though in anticipation of it's future collectability - as such I suppose I can understand ppl paying 」80 for it. 」100 though is a bit :cuckoo:
Last night was the 1st time I watched the film (although I've yet to watch the final fight) and now being a "converted" fan, I may just hold onto the set (especially as I would want the Jap release anyway)!:D :dork:
Slightly OT, and really more suited to the review forum, did ppl not find the final fight scene with all the henchmen a bit OTT. I really enjoyed the build up and the "pulp-esk" style, but this scene really ruined it abit - I know it was perhaps a bit tongue-in-cheek, but I would have preferred it to be a little more "believable" - a 2nd viewing may improve things somewhat though.

If a similar set is done for Vol 2 I can see the re-sale value for this first box being even higher.

It's not the extras on the DVD that are driving the price up it's the daft stuff like the sword and the bearbrick (I believe people pay silly money for individual bearbrick's on there own) so this should be a set that keeps it's value quite well.
Y not try to check at REMOVED for the dvd info n price. I notices that there is a lots of version with different price.

Today I bought a 'Crazy 88' figure from MVC (with a 」2 off voucher they sent me). Its cool!!! its comes with a pump and bottle of red invisible ink. When you pump it, bloods squirts out of the limbs as they fall off!!!! - nice guy in the shop also gave me a free Kill Bill 2 poster!
It'll look nice on a shelf with my Kill Bill set (when it arrives). Now all I need is the tracksuit sleeve to complete the display!
