I know people tend to love him or hate him and if you love him, there are many great films to choose from, but which is your personal favourite......
Mine is probably Everyone Says I Love You.......
Your turn......

Take the Money and Run, closely followed by Sleepers and Bananas.

Play It Again, Sam. One of my favourite films of all time.:)
Hannah and her Sisters, without the batting of an eyelid.
Close run thing between Annie Hall and Sleeper. Products of his best period during the 70's.
I think Sleeper, Love & Death, Manhattan, Another Woman, most of Husbands & Wives (Liam Neeson is terrible!) and Play It Again, Sam are all exceptional Woody Allen films, but my favourite is the underrated Stardust Memories.

You're the first person to mention Stardust Memories here (apart from me).
I'd prolly go for Stardust Memories too and depending on how I feel Broadway Danny Rose an Hannah and Her Sisters
Great director and comedian.

Definitely Play It Again, Sam, possibly the funniest movie ever!
Has anyone got the R1 which came out this week - what's the picture like etc?

Probably Sleeper, followed by Love and Death, Take the money and run and a few jokes from Small time crooks.
Hannah and her Sisters- I still marvel at how great that film is each time I watch it.
Second is probably Manhattan and Radio days.
Third - Annie Hall.
What's weird with Allen is that some of his films really split the fans (like Stardust Memories and Crimes and Miscemeanors that I really don't care for much). I suppose that's a good sign that he's able to connect with someone with each film... although I'm not sure if September or Interiors will ever be anyone's favourite Woody!
STARDUST MEMORIES for me too, though it is a close run thing with LOVE & DEATH & ZELIG

I'll be obvious and say Annie Hall and Manhattan, but i also LOVE Take the Money and Run, Love and Death, Broadway Danny Rose and Hannah and Her Sisters.
If i have to take a pick from his more recent stuff, i'll have to say the underrated Deconstructing Harry.
:)
he makes hardly any duff films.
Wasn't overmad on stardust memories/husbands and wives/september/another woman.
Any of :
Annie Hall
Everyone Says I Love You
Love And Death
Sleeper
Shadows And Fog
Broadway Danny Rose
Take The Money And Run
Play It Again Sam (on it's way as I type!)
Hannah And Her Sisters
Manhattan
All depends on the day of the week and time of the day I'm asked!
My fave is probably Sleeper. Of his recent films I would go for Manhattan Murder Mystery
I'm surprised no one has even mentioned The Purple Rose of Cairo. I've only seen it once (on FilmFour recently) and liked it a lot. My favourite Woody Allen film is Hannah and Her Sisters, followed closely by Manhattan and Everyone Says I Love You. There are still a few I haven't seen including Broadway Danny Rose, Radio Days and Husbands and Wives.

I've never seen so much agreement in one thread for 'good' films!

[Play it Again Sam]
It's on it's way! -Dead funny film of course but not really a Woody Allen film of course -he's just in it. Although it's so funny he must of had something to do with it. Makes me roar with laughter evrytime I see it :D

By the way folks, which is the best region for Take the Money and Run? Strangely, Region 2 appears to be best, anyone got it?
<I>"Dead funny film of course but not really a Woody Allen film of course -he's just in it"</I>
mmm and wrote it, so a woody allen film! just didn't direct - which is rare.

Only joking.
I do like the early funny ones like Sleeper and Play it again, Sam though.
Not to say i don't like his new films.

I think Woody wrote the original stage play on which the film was based. It's my favourite Woody Allen film - and I've come close to ordering it from Play several times over the last couple of weeks (shame it's £17.99, compared to the cost of other R1 new releases).
Other than PiaS, my I'd vote forr Sleeper and Mighty Aphrodite. I was tempted to pick up a copy of Manhattan in the HMV sale - but I've never seen it.

But it's not set in NY but in SF = can't be a real Woody Allen film :D

Don't press! :D
Have a look Region 1 (http://www.dvdtown.com/reviewspec.asp?reviewid=520) & Region 2 UK (http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/reviews/details.asp?Index=1304)
This is a very cheap title so don't pay too much!

They are :D
But I've seen the Region 1 disc for £4-£5inc.
Still worth it to refresh the memory of the film.

I've never seen a Woody Allen film in my life - is there a particular one that's best to watch first. Something to introduce me to his brand of humour....

Aha, where is this magical supplier of £5 DVDs?
In your opinion, which do you reckon is the best - i can't understand why the ratios are different (duh!)?

Love and Death for me. It mau not be his greatest piece of cinema (Hannah and her Sisters or Manhattan for that) but it is, for my money, his most joyfully anarchic and fun - with the best of Bob Hope and the Marx Brothers thrown into the mix with lots of irreverent silliness at the expense of Bergman and Russian movies and literature. It makes me laugh a lot, even though I probably know most of it by heart.

Just call me Wanda - Go for Annie Hall or Manhattan first. It may mean some of the others are a letdown afterwards as those two are cinematic masterpieces, but they are also his most accessible.

I'd go for Annie Hall... A good mix of his early style and of his more 80s style...

Seen them in the US for $6.99 and on Region 2 for £5-£6. Don't recall where -so look! :)
No idea about the different ratios so just got for the Region 1 which has 2 ratios.
There's a different Region 2 review here (http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/reviews/details.asp?Index=1304) which may help.

Thank youuuuuu :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
Difficult to choose 1, so...
<b>Annie Hall
Manhattan
Stardust Memories
Deconstructing Harry
Husbands and Wives
Hannah and Her Sisters</b>
I didn't much like "Small Time Crooks" though. "Celebrity" had it's moments.

This is a toughie...
I probably got the most enjoyment out of Everyone Says I Love You, though it's atypical of Woody, I feel - and features The Wide Mouthed Frog in her only good film apart from Erin Brockovitch.
Second would be Deconstructing Harry despite Robin Williams.
I liked Radio Days, Zelig, Small Time Crooks, Mighty Aphrodite and Hannah and her Sisters a whole lot too...
Hard to choose, but my top three would have to be "Annie Hall", "Manhattan" and "Hannah and her Sisters".
