View Full Version : How to meet Jonathon Ross ...
Go see the Ghibli film season at the Barbican
Last evening (thursday) he took his two kiddies to see Nausicaa & Laputa
I've now seen those & Mononoke - surprisingly I enjoyed Laputa the most even though I was expected the opposite
Just Fireflies to go & Im preparing myself for the emotional turmoil

p.s. he wears those outrageous suits even for a cinema trip
I saw him years ago at 'The Cinema Store' in London buying DVDs. At the time I blanked him coz I thought he was a right ********, but he seems a half decent guy nowadays
He's not as funny as he thinks he is.

Or you could open an expensive boutique that sells garish clothes that nobody with an ounce of taste would be seen dead in.

I've never like JR and he's killed off Film on BBC. The programme is now unwatchable.
Shame.
yeah, but he's great on They Think It's All Over!! Although I've never seen him about, he strikes me as a pleasant enough guy.....

has anyone seen the show he does on BBC Choice - think it's called Stop Kung Fu - i've only caught bits of it but it looks bad, and the picture quality of the clips is aaaawful
i'm not into martial arts films in a big way but i own a few HKLs and if that's the kinda quality they have to deal with/restore then their work is simply amazing!!

Last Resort: great TV even if it was a Letterman rip-off but Ross is severly over-exposed now. How can he hope to have any credibility as a TV movie reviewer when he’s had his sycophantic Daily Mirror quotes splashed over some of the worst crap to hit cinemas in the last ten years? Say what you like about Bazza Norman, at least he had integrity. Still, I don’t think Jonny boy gives a crap - any day he gets up and doesn’t have to do Pets Win Prizes anymore is a good day.
I dunno, i really didnt think much of him at all last week on They Think Its All Over. Just think he went over the line a couple of times with whatshername that was on it as well.

Film 2001 has improved soooo much since Ross took over. Proberly because he's a real film geek with a liking for the cult end of the film market.
( I saw him at a Russ Myer double bill about 10 years ago. )
By contrast Barry Norman's last few years on Sky was a very dour show and just seemed to be old Bazza sat in a chair sulking about why all new films are rubbish.
As for the quality of the clips on 'Stop Kung Fu'. Unfortunatly a lot of the 70's kung fu flicks do look that bad, due to the Hong Kong tradition of storing old films in an acid bath.
Still they do show lot's of clips from 'The Story of Ricky'. Which is always good to inflict to the public.
lol - so it "lets bash" JR day
If you don't like his shows dont watch them but personal remarks
are uncalled for IMO

I agree 100% there are so many films that Bazza resolutely panned that were otherwise enjoyable his review of The Predator comes to mind, we all know it wasn't directed by David Lean but it wasn't a waste of time. At least JR recognises that some films are made to entertain on a less abstract level that they don't all have to explore the human condition in depth to be valid.
