I am thinking about buying a SONY STR DB1070 AV RECEIVER WITH 6.1 MULTI CHANNEL. The question i have is, has anyone got one or seen any reviews for it?

The cheapest i`ve seen it is for £432 including delivery at www.robertwhyteltd.co.uk instead of curry`s or comet`s £600.

At the last count there was probably about 40 of us:D

Seriously though, at 450 it is still a steal buy and as an owner of one I would recommend it heartily. Any questions, just ask.

Beautiful machine and the best electrical item I've bought (except for my plug in 'massager' http://members.tripod.co.uk/uploadimages/gay_smilie.gif :D).

Top bargain at £299.99 too. I couldn't get out of the shop quick enough!

I know what you mean, I had the longest five minutes of my life waiting fot the sales assistant to come back from the storeroom. (they hadn't even gone on sale yet).

Didn't relax till I got out of the shop with it !

Actually looking back on this it made me feel a bit like a shoplifter.

Oh well...

By the way the manual / menus talk about two centre rear (inc balance) and can anyone access the prologic setup ?

I know what you mean. The store didn't have ant stock when i was in for mine, only one on display. The sales drone must have thought he was on a winner when i was insistent on paying for it there and then. I dropped by the next afternoon and got it coming of the trailor.
Once again Bapapapa thanks.Good result. :D

I almost ran out of the shop too,the salesman even asked me what was so special about it as they had sold 3 that day and they weren't even on display yet,err um,it got a good review in what hi-fi I said quickly.

My other bargain forumtransaction with Currys was the £19.99 X files boxset,as I was leaving the salesman was telling the manager the price it had come up at the till,he was looking at me as if I had nicked it,probably thought I was a super hacker who'd just attacked their till with my hidden weapon :D

As for the 1070 like the others i'm impressed with it £432 is still a good price.

I know you are all probably sick of hearing about The Sony DB1070 but I bought one off a guy who got it from Curry's and I have just finished setting it up because of holidays and work etc.I've set it up with the Eltax Stargate X1's I bought from QED.
The thing is although the speakers sound OK I am getting nothing from the Sub-woofer even on the test tone. Anybody with a similar set-up who can help me out? Also is it me or is the remote crap? It doesn't seem to do anything.

Have you turned the subwoofer ON in the setup section of the amp?

if that does not work make sure its in the right Sub output on the Amp( there are three) I have the 1070 and Eltax Stargate Speakers and also got nothing from the sub when I first set them up I had just plugged it in the wrong one.

I thought I'd bring this back from the dead as Richer Sounds now have these for £299. I know some people don't like Richers but I've always found them to be a-ok.

Now to convince my missus to get me an amp for Xmas. :)

Nice to see this thread come back again! As mentioned above I have one of these playing through an Eltax Stargate speaker system and a separate Eltax centre speaker. So I have six speakers and a sub-woofer.I have recently bought a new 32" JVC TV which has it's own prp-logic speakers and attached sub-woofer.My query is can I split the speaker cables from the rear left and right Eltax speakers so that they not only go into the back of my Sony receiver but also into the speaker connections on the TV to save using the JVC speakers provided with the TV?

Take a look at the Pioneer 811S. Unbeatable.co.uk do them for £302. They are a cracking 6.1 Discreet amp (DD-EX and DTS-ES Discreet certified), have loads of inputs, DPL-II, 7.1 input and 7.1 speaker outs. 6x100W amps etc. Not sure if the UK version has all the same video switching as the US version but mine has component/s-video and composite switching. Has assignable digital inputs etc etc. Has had rave reviews here. I have one (paid a lot less than that though as this is the US after all ;) ). Definately a good amp IMO and beat the Sony hands down when I tested them.
