View Full Version : What's this John Woo movie like?
anyone ever seen the John Woo film Heroes Shed No Tears ?
I've never actually got round to getting it but it's supposedly quite good, though not as polished as his later films (it was his first gunfight film).
From what i've read it's more like Bullet In The Head than any of his other films.
Opinions please ?
Never seen this myself, which is surprising as I'm a big John Woo fan (well his HK films)
Reviews at IMDB <a href="http://uk.imdb.com/Title?0092264">here</a>
Looks pretty good to me, can I ask why you ask about it? Have you seen it going cheap somewhere, if so let me know! Cheers
i'm just curious because i honestly didnt even know it existed until a few weeks ago (bows head in shame especially since im a big fan as well! :) )
www.dddhouse.com are selling it for HK$75.00, under a tenner, so it may be worth a purchase (especially since the disk has a cantonese, mandarin and english dub on it! )
Ah yeah I just went to DDDhouse myself and saw it, thinking about getting that and 'The Legend of Zu' which I've heard lots of mixed reviews about but does look an absolute riot! & a nice DTS disc too
i've seen it! can't remember it all too well though :(
I watched it after the usual selection of Woo titles so I remember not being as impressed, but it was still a fun film. IIRC I was quite surprised by a sex/rape scene, not because it was particularly explicit, but because John Woo barely features ladies in his films, let alone sex scenes!!
also, again, IIRC, this film was passed by when Woo originally finished it, but then based on later success the HK studios went back to it, re-edited it and re-released it....
just wait now for all the above to be debunked :D

It's overall a good movie.
It's indeed not as polished as Bullet... and a wee bit sentimental and overplayed (even by HK standards) but this is still really enjoyable.
