Does anyone have any recommended garages for getting an MOT in West London? I am fairly new here and would not want to go to some dodgy place that will rip me off. Oh and my car is a Ford Escort if that makes a difference, I would go to a Ford garage but I assume I will have to pay more for that...

Thanks

Sorry can't help with the place to go, but you shouldn't pay more just for an MOT if that's all you want as the price is fixed by the Department of Transport.

If you want and MOT and the work needed to get it through then it might cost you more.

I went here when my usual Renault main dealer couldn't fit me in before the old one expired (via a roundabout recommendation from them to another garage to these guys).

They operate out of a set of railway arches and didn't look fantastic but the guy gave me some very useful advice and passed the car no problems (R reg Megane).

He pointed out a couple of things that were wrong which some garages would claim were failures but didn't need fixing immediately - tiny hole in the exhaust and a spot of rust on the brakes. Sure enough when the car went for its service I got told it needed a new exhaust and brakes as it was an MOT failure. Having an MOT with a date a week earlier I decided not to worry about it. A year and 4,500 miles later it sailed through another MOT at my usual garage with no problems?!?

A main dealer is unlikely to rob you but they may recommend work that needs to be done but maybe not as urgently as they suggest.

I'd use these guys again if they were more local but I'm over in the East and its a trek to get back.
