Can anyone tell me why my new yamada 6100 wont play my region 2 dvds?
i tried a divx file cd in and it played no prob which is what i had expected.
when i put a region 2 dvd in it says loading and after about a minute says NO DISC? very strange and its only a day old will i return it to amazon?

Assuming you have tried a few DVDs then I can only see it being the player at fault...
P.S. The 6600 is in the shops now (special reserve £66/ maplin £79) based on superior mediatek chipset I believe.

I'm thinking of getting a 6600 too, but have a couple of questions about the divx capabilities etc:

can i stick a bunch of divx files in different folders on a dvdr and navigate through and play them?

also, will it play mpg-2 SVCD files straight off the disc, or will they have to be written to cds as proper svcds? would be very handy for sticking a few tv shows on dvd-r etc

cheers for any help :)

Yes you can put divx files on DVD media as you suggest. The 6600 has a nice explorer-style file browser to select the files.

If I may plug my own site (http://www.my-yamada.co.uk/), I run a dedicated Yamada support site, which is officially recognised by Umax (Yamada's parent company).

I'm poised to order a 6600 myself, just one question ... does it play back seamless branching DVDs (like the Alien Quadrilogy films) properly? i.e. without the video pausing/stuttering + loss of audio for a split second at the branch points.

Does any player offer totally pause/sound-loss free scene transition? If you can point out a title that includes seemless branching from the DVDProfiler list - I'll check it out for you.

Many Thanks, I'd be very grateful if you could take a quick look. The Matrix DVD uses Seamless branching. Play the movie using the "Follow the white rabbit" option (in Special Features > The Dream World) and check for pausing stuttering near when the white rabbit icons appear during the film (on a Region 2 disc, the first white rabbit icon is at around the 3mins 10/20 seconds mark). You won't need to click on the white rabbit icon to notice any pausing/stuttering though - just let the movie continue as normal.

I know that the PS2 plays seamless branching DVDs properly, but I'm after a standalone player that does it.

Right, I'll just have a look now.

I have just uploaded my official review of the 6600 to my site - you will see it on the main page.

Edit : Right, if the stuttering was supposed to happen when the rabbit appeared - it didn't. The video continued normally. The rabbit appeared about 3:05 into the film.

Hope that answers your question!

Thank you for checking it out - the branch point occurs a couple of seconds before the white rabbit logo appears when Trinity delivers a fatal blow to the cop (immediately before Trinity does that famous bullet time jump) but if you didn't notice any brief sound cut out or pause in video at all that is fantastic news indeed!

I'm off going to check out your review of the 6600 now - excellent site btw! :)
