Tips / tricks / advice or flat no's please !

Jester,
How old is your sofa? Can you open it up from underneath?
If so, may I suggest placing a wife friendly 12-15" sub driver(from somewhere like Maplins)in its own slimline enclosure in the lower framework of your sofa. If your going to canibalise your Yam, use the amps output to drive the sub.

I did it about 4 years ago in my old sofa when I first got into DVD.

The wife was already going ape with three extra speakers about the room, so to avoid trouble placing another black box in the room, I opened up the bottom of the sofa and made an enclosure to suit the internal measurements of the lower frame.

We found that we didn't need to crank it up so much, and in the words of one of my female neighbour friends "it's better than siting on the washing machine on full spin".

The only inherent problem with a sofa-sub is the cable feed to it.

Good luck!!

:D thanks for that !

The solution I was thinking about may have involved removing the cone from the driver so all the thing did was vibrate.

Dont want extra bass just for the sake of it / drowning out my new sub (when I get it)
