View Full Version : Red Dwarf the Movie?
Ive just recently got back into the Red Dwarf series and was wondering if all that talk of a movie was true?
If not anyone know if a Series 9 is on the cards?
Shooting for the movie is due to start in May this year.

I think Red Darf should be left. It's been too long... and Craig Charles shamed himself by doing Robot Wars :oh-hum:

weell I went to the www.londonfilmandcomiccon.com the weekend and someone asked the cast aobut the movie, and they all laughed at him, the cast have heard nothing about the new movie, Chris Barrie just said its obviously having setbacks. So take any rumours with a pinch of salt, unless the cast are the last to know (which is quite possible, but I think if it was May they'd have known).

me too.
Red Dwarfs last series was aired a few years back so why bother with a movie when fans will be just as happy with another series. I quite like the cheap budget look of Red Dwarf too but I dont think any newcomer would be too impressed if they had the same quality effects for the big screen.

They get asked each year at the reddwarf conventions, and every year for the past 5 or 6 years they've been saying they're due to start within the next 6 months.
Don't think it'll ever happen to be honest.

I thought it had already started actually.
Spoke to Hatty Hayridge last year and she knew nothing about it... she does not expect to be appearing in it therefore!

Well Norman Lovett came back as Holly so she wouldn't be in it anyway.
Says filming starts in May here.

The film has been stuck in the "coming soon" stage for what seems like eternity - and it looks as though it'll be 2006, at the earliest, before it's out.
Pity, as the story sounded as though it was a bit of a goody.

Oh, and it had been said (can't remember if offially) that Hattie and Norm would be in it.
Dunno how they'd do it, but might be cool.
Again, that is IF the film ever gets made.

Here is the plot summary from IMDB. Im not sure how they plan to address the end of the last TV series though.
RED DWARF THE MOVIE is set in the distant future where Homo Sapienoids, a fearsome combination of flesh and machine, and the next stage of human evolution, have taken over the solar system and almost wiped out the human race. The only survivors are the crews of long-haul space freighters that left Earth before the conflict began. The Sapienoids send forth fleets of Death Ships to hunt them down. One by one - the human ships fall, until only one remains. Its name - Red Dwarf...

The film idea sounds rubbish if what ryonhilluk has posted is true (IMDB is not the most reliable of sources however...!)
I just don't see this film working, all the classic series (S3, S4) were made 10-12 years ago now - there is no way the writers will be able to get to that level of quality again, especially with Rob Grant not on board, so why bother??

More from the official site, although this was posted a long time ago.
"Yes, once again, the blurb is for real. This is indeed the plot of Red Dwarf - The Movie. Kinda. It misses the bit where Lister, Rimmer, Cat and Kryten come together, obviously. It also misses out Holly and Kochanski. It misses the actual plot, in fact, and with good reason. This flyer was produced as a marketing tool for Winchester Films to sell the movie in various international territories. What story is included is there to whet the appetite.
It's been a long time coming, but finally Red Dwarf - The Movie is becoming a reality."
It did also mention that they might be making it in Australia, probably because its cheaper. Im still not convinced it will happen.

Oh my god, I hadn't heard that plot outline before.
It's awful.
