Anyone else been playing this ? It just came out on import and is due here on March 26th

Basically an action survival horror game and it is a lot of fun. Camera isnt too bad and its definitely action based, lots of bullets, different guns and monsters. Great atmosphere and the creatures designed by stan winstons workshop are great, some wonderfully creepy designs in there

The best decision was to set the game in a death row prison and it adds a lot to the game, can be really spooky at times. The puzzles are also not as far out as say Resident Evil, theres no 'collect statues to place on mantlepiece' in this game (so far anyway)

Another thing is the amount of bad language in the game, its probably worse than what was in the PC game Kingpin but because of the situation and death row prisoners I dont think they'd be saying things like 'jolly ho old chap!'

I love it and think it really helps the games atmosphere but if bad language is off putting for you dont be playing this game as you'll have a fit!

Anyway, highly recommended for all fans of horror action titles and a solid game.

Haven't even heard of this one Woo but you've got me interested.

Are there any links knocking about for the xbox version?

I've been looking forward to this since I played it at The Playstation Experience last year. The atmosphere was amazing, even in that noisy, crowded environment; I can't wait to scare myself to death playing it at home :)

I just completed it. Its pretty short, kinda repetative and throughout the whole game I died about 5 times.

The plot was good though and its got as much blood as Braindead along with the atmosphere of Silent Hill and Manhunt!

So overall a good game? I heard it has multiple endings. The fact that it is suppsoed to be scary is what appeals to me.

I've been playing the Xbox version of this for the last hour or so, and i've got to say its absolutely brill so far.

I nearly crapped myself when i looked in one of the security monitors, realised it showed me with some nasty creeping up behind me. Turned around and there was no-one there and i panicked for a few seconds, then breathed a big sigh of relief.

Damn this game!

I hate running around in the dark getting lost.

I seem to have an evil streak, bashed one guard, electrocuted another guard, and gassed another one.

I think I will try to be good from now on as the people I kill can help me instead.

The game is pretty freaky, I liked the extras on the disc about the haunted prison.

After I stopped playing teh game I went into the kitchen (3am), light was not working, and I swear I saw something flash past the window

Game is somewhat odd and strange, but i'm sure everything will be explained as I progress.

Just rented this out from work tonite on XBOX as its out tomorrow, and I dont think since Aliens have I ever bricked it sooo much on several occasions!

Just had to turn on the lights and walk round the house :suspect:

As for that security camera bit, sent shivers down my spine! As do the very weird screen flashes that come up - though sure they will make more sense later!!!

The "mental-meter" sounds good in this game. Every time you come up against a monster or something it increases your mental-meter until it fills up and you go crazy, speeding all over the place hacking and slashing everything and everyone!

Been playing it again after couple of days away - apparently just a couple of levels from the end! Some bits really annoyed me though!

Will be interested to see which ending I get as I've tried to be nice!

Completed it very late last nite after about a week of playing - some really annoying frustrating levels in the game but pretty much straight forward :)

According to the games site i was reading last nite I got the good ending, its a little bizarre but now im gonna have to go through each level and be as nasty as possible!

Only thing that really freaked me out were the little girls - spooky!

evilashchris
21-05-2004, 10:38
what do you reckon then? this or manhunt? can't aford both...

Flyte
21-05-2004, 10:53
This - ive played both :)

Manhunt is cool but gets very boring after an hour at the most, its the same stuff over and over again....rent it first and think u will agree

Suffering is excellent, and its been the first game in ages i've actually wanted to sit through and complete (last was Call of Duty). Im not normally a big fan of FPS on XBOX but this has swayed me completely - graphics are excellent, monsters some are quite frightening and there are many moments in this game (esp if listening in 5.1) that will make u jump or cringe! The voices and flashbacks will def make u jump - needs to be played in complete darkness!

Ive completed it now but im still tempted to go and buy it just cos its one of those games :)

Thanks:thumbs: , i have played manhunt and it did make me want to buy it.. this looks like it seems to be very good too, but the gamesTM review put me off a bit.. but the views here seem to be very glowing.. i'll try and pick i up tomorrow..:)

Wait a minute - it's a FPS?

That's off putting.

twicenightly
21-05-2004, 14:18
You can play it as FPS or 3rd person - you can switch between views at any time apparently

dan13l
21-05-2004, 14:18
You've got the choice - 3rd or first.

Flyte
21-05-2004, 14:24
chris - no probs, I would def go for this, I cant see manhunt being more than an hour or two before appeal gets lost v.quickly....I got up to level 3 I think it was (with the Nail Gun) and was getting very annoyed with it. Its a giggle when drunk but all the kills seem to get repetitive - though some of the phrases are funny :D

Must admit prefered Suffering in 1st person - you get more atmos in the game and can actually aim a lot easier, good fun esp with the flamethrower in the last couple of levels!!!!

Jimmyboy
21-05-2004, 15:14
So is this survival horror or just same naffy Doom clone?

Flyte
21-05-2004, 15:17
Mix of both really - survival at the start until u start getting ammo and stuff, would compare it to a kind of Half Life really as u come across lots of situations can either help the other people or watch them die in front of your eyes :D

Certainly has the jumpy ascepts from HL and the AvP games mixed with varying number of weapons! Not too many different types of monsters but some of the locations are v.eerie - running around the maze is one, and the graveyards towards the end are freaky!

Well just as an update, i did get this, and i really like it.. i hate it when the blade monsters spider walk though! ugh! Thanks for making my mind up Flyte ;)

No probs mate - its brilliant - but there are far worse things to come!!!!

I hate it when they scratch their arms against the wall :D

well I bought this for the pc yesterday and I have to say its great. Very Very intense though, scary as hell in places as well. dunno how far through I am, I've just got past the recreation yard and am currently a bit stuck on a bit after you talk to your missus on the phone in the visiting room. I imagine theres a fair bit left yet though but I need a break as its freaking me out too much - the thunder storm outside isn't helping :D

I'm playing this now (bought last week for £8 from game).

I'm stuck on level 6 the bit where you have to pull the venting machines over the drain hole to put out the flames. It just doesn't seem to be working, I've tried 1, 2 three combinations. help! What am I doing wrong?

I searched on the net and found people saying you can use just one, another saying two etc.

I'm playing on the medium difficulty level. (the default).

Haven't played this in ages but when you pull the machines over the holes, is there a tap to turn on or a water pipe to break. The water in the room will rise and extinguish the flames. If you think its hard now wait until the end. The final boss thing is an absolute **** to beat.

thescrounger
02-02-2005, 13:31
yeah the water is on, but it's still not working!

I'll have to see if there an additional water pipe to break too.

It's an excellent game though!

Was reading an article about the Suffering 2 at the weekend. Interesting to note that the game will detect a completed save game from the first and let you begin the second game depending on the outcome of the first game.

Might be worth holding on to those saves for anyone that's enjoyed this.

Hmm. Well I decided the game must have glitched since nothing was working, so I went back and played the level again and suprise suprise it worked.
