View Full Version : Bridget Jones Cuts
Sure this has been in before, but the search facility will not work for me at all......
R1 version
Someone mentioned cuts because of certain swear words. Where was this / were these removed from?

The UK cinema release had the C word removed for ratings reasons; I suppose the R2 will as well - however, it's there in all its glory on the R1.
Noticed it mentioned once when Bridget's mother's co-host was getting his nails done or something and the woman did something he didn't like, but was that it?

Yep, I'm pretty sure it was just the one word.

You can read about the Cut in our review here:

It's Julian the shopping channel guy and he calls his attendant a "ham-fisted ......". The BBFC didnt like the word and the distributor had it dubbed to get a lower rating.

so, apart from the c word and the end credit sequence, does anyone have any info on the other slight differences between the US and international versions of this film? ie. different takes, set-ups etc that are substitued for the relevant audiences?
Anyone notice these when watching the US version on dvd after seeing it in the UK cinema?
...ahh...
...take a look at the IMDb's 'Alternate versions' site:
http://us.imdb.com/AlternateVersions?0243155
. . . :o . . .
thanks Hendrik
I did look there!
what I mean is - are the differences obvious?
and in the commentary (which I assume will be exactly the same for R2???) does the director say anything about which is her preferred cut of the film?

i've only seen the UK version at the cinema but i did hear at one point that one scene was changed for the US version where Hugh Grant mentions about doing something which is "illegal in 47 states" (or something along those lines) to Renee Zellweger
not sure if that is true - would be interesting to find out

Something I can't remember but occured to me whilst watching the R1 -
The text weights for Bridget on screen are shown in lbs on the R1 - were they in stones on the UK cinema release?
