View Full Version : "Le Bossu" (France, 1997) with Vincent Perez, Daniel Auteuil just out in R1
I've just noticed that one of my long-awaited gems, the superb French swashbuckler, Le Bossu (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118756/) is out in R1 under the name "On Guard!". It's listed in some places as "On Guard! (2004)" but this certainly seems to be the 1997 film directed by Philippe de Broca.
Release date: 09 March 2004
At last! I have been tempted so many times to just buy the French disc despite the lack of STs. Hopefully the new Fanfan Le Tulipe will follow.
where from? nowt on playusa or dvdsoon
It's a US release, not a Canadian release, so you wouldn't find it at those two. Try a US site like DVD Pacific.
right never used any US site...
well you'll soon be thanking me then, DVD Pacific are one of the best sites in the business - excellent prices all year round, comprehensive selection, easy ordering and great customer service. The only problem is that the delivery charges can be quite steep.
It's out Region 2 on 26 April via a link up by World Cinema Ltd and Pathe UK.
No further details except they are also releasing Farinelli, Chihwaseon, Son Of The Bride and Le Bonheur on the same day.:)
anywhere for preorder? whats the R2 called?
wow, thanks zappa - definitely worth submitting (http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/index.php?page=UserNewsForm) that one to the DVD Times rumours list - would you care to do the honours?
Good stuff. Do you mean Le Bonheur est dan le pre? If so great movie, but the news came two days too late as I just bought the French disc thinking if it had not come out yet it was never going to!

I would but I can't seem to log on at the moment. Maybe someone else can, I'm not after glory or anything!
Le Bossu cat number is P8957DVD
uh oh. Farinelli seems to be a full frame pan'n'scam transfer, also a DVD5.
If this information is correct, then another one to buy from R1.
Has anybody bought either Farinelli (R2, UK) or Le Bossu (1997, R2, UK) and can comment on the picture quality? Are they anamorphic and OAR, for example? No review of either of these disks is listed on DVD Basen ... I guess World Cinema Ltd didn't think of sending out review copies?
Here (http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=10309) is a review of the R1 version of Le Bossu - anamorphic widescreen but the picture quality is not outstanding.
The R2 version is a DVD5 according to Blackstar, so I'm not too hopeful about picture quality, but at least it is anamorphic.
The R2 version of Farinelli is a full frame (pan and scan) DVD5 according to Blackstar.
