Hi all i could do with some advice ,

I need you to recommend me some Kung Fu titles and by Kung Fu i dont necessary mean contemporary Hong Kong martial art filmslike the ones HKL do, im refering to the ol skool type.

ya know the ones im talking about the dodgy dubbed film......stuff like Shaolin vs Lama
the Wu tang films, any Gordon Liu flicks, speaking of which are any of his flicks on dvd?

i couldnt give a flying [four letter expletative] about extras i just wanna see some cheesy chop socky on dvd.
the only pre-requisite is that the films you recommend must have a shed load of blood n guts galore and oh they must have english subs!

i wonder whether dddhouse's weekly cheap section houses any of these kinda films?

i know some of them are released on R2[UK] but as i dont know the names of them and thus dont know where to look.:(

i recall Ringos having some for a tenner under his martial arts section but when i last checked they had disappeared.

So i guess its over to you, time to get ya thinking caps on people

I'll be interested to see what the likes of King Kanedaa,Wing Chun Watusi,Mighty Michael Brooke and the rest of y'all HK film afficionados can muster up:p  ;)

btw i've got most of the known titles- Drunken Master etc....

I've got Young Master and Dragonlord from HK but I believe both these are getting a HKL make over next year...

Oh I also splashed out on some Shaw Brother's stuff earlier this week...

36th Chamber of Shaolin aka Master Killer
Crippled Avengers aka Return of the 5 Deadly Venoms
Kid with the Golden Arm

They're dubbed tho' (you've got bob chance ever seeing them subbed) but thankfully widescreen...

A good place to read about 'em is here (http://www.dvdcult.com/KFDVDReviews.htm).

Other's one's (I've got on VHS) that I'd recommend are...

Dirty Ho
Five Venoms
Treasure Hunters
Invincible Shaolin

Hi mate many thanks for that link, its shed a whole lot of light on an otherwise dark scenario.

I've heard great things about the 5 Venoms series no doubt they'll be my first purchases.

Shame about the lack of subs, but im not really in it for the linguo its all about visuals when it comes to chop socky.

Since these are specialist titles , exactly where did you buy these from mate?

I know amazon stock them but for obvious reasons i wish to avoid them.

Anywhere customs friendly stock these dvds?

the ridiculously overpriced Uk importers seem to have listings for them, but i aint paying their prices for $15 rrp dvds.

If you could lemme know where i can get em from?

thanks again mate

I will be paying close attention to this thread as this is an area im only just exploring i.e. non-HKL hong kong kung fu flics.

I only have a few but one of them comes very highly recommended - just what you are looking for :)

Born Invincible its available on dvd...cos I have it :)

********* (http://www.*********.com/)

I can't say I've used them before - but they came recommended.
If they 'deliver the goods' this time I'll definately be using them in the future!
Cheap prices AND non-mainstream titles! :)

have a look at Dragons Den (www.dragonsdenuk.com) a massive database of reviews and DVD info for HK films.

If u have fave people, search for them, but if u are fairly new to the scene I'd recommend browsing the reviews for those which get 4 or 5 stars....there's plenty of them!

Five Venoms is my favourite kung fu movie

Not sure of the quality of the R1 DVD version, as I only have the Made in Hong Kong VHS. Fingers crossed that this Shaw Bros classic gets the HKL treatment.
