Any fans of Boogie Nights/Magnolia/Punch Drunk Love might wanna know that his first film, Hard Eight, is on BBC2 at 00.20.

Not a great film but certainly worth a look (especially with Sam L. Jackson and Gwyneth Paltrow joining 5 or 6 of PTA's usual suspects).

:)

Is it in the style of Magnolia, or does it actually have a point?

:cry:I'm only trying to be nice:cry:

Edit: The plot's a little more conventional so you might be able to cope with this one. :D

If you hated that  you’ll hate Hard Eight IMO. I made the mistake of giving him another chance with Punch Drunk Love after being tortured by Magnolia. I now know better than to make that mistake again.

Hard Eight = OK
Boogie Nights = Great
Magnolia = Great
Punch Drunk Love = Good

So speaketh Jowser.

I know this has nothing to do with the topic, but I posted as it seemed like andrewcalderuk needed some moral support :D

 Cheers Jowser.

I had no intention of turning this into yet another tedious PTA-sucks-oh-no-he-doesn't thread, just a simple heads up for people who liked his other films.

Thought it was pretty clear from my first post; maybe I should have drawn pictures. ;)

Well to be fair, I enjoyed Boogie Nights, so it might have been a reasonable question if I hadn't leant so heavily towards my all-consuming hatred of Magnolia. That's three hours of my life that I could have spent much more usefully, for example, throwing blu tac at the wall, and I'm still annoyed about it.

Probably best if I don't set the video.

Cheers for the heads up though.

Edit: I just realised I got the day wrong - it was on last night  .

I enjoyed Boogie Nights and Magnolia but wasnt keen on Punch Drunk Love.

Adam Sadlers character was just a bit TOO weird for me and I doubt Emilty Watson's high flier would realistically fall for him !!

Thats one of the main points of the film that anything can happen.

Personaly i think its genius and andersons best film and very funny.

At lease we can all agree that this anderson is just alittle better than the other anderson ;)

I think Magnolia is a masterpice, and it's one of my favourite films.

So there.

Me too...love it. The "sing-a-long" moment is one of utter genius IMO :notworthy

I think Philip Baker Hall's performance in "Hard Eight" is among the best of the 1990s. Otherwise, I don't have many opinions on any of PTA's films, except to say that I liked "Boogie Nights" a lot until it got weighed down by totally inappropriate moralising.

I echo Squeaky G - Magnolia is one of my top five films, it's just so full of wonderful moments that I can't imagine anyone not liking it. But there you go.

However, I wasn't that impressed with this film, which I was watching for the first time. It was alright, but nothing special - started well but then kind of went off.
