Though the first JUDGE DREDD movie was pretty much a flop, comic publisher 2000 AD has signed a deal to bring back the character in two new movies.

According to Variety, 2000 AD has signed with Shoreline Entertainment for two films based on the original comic series. The first will be called JUDGE DREDD: DREDD RECKONING, which focuses on the title character as he comes to grips with his losing confidence in a corrupt legal system.

The second project has the title JUDGE DREDD: POSSESSION, which, if it happens, would bring the character of Judge Death to the screen. The story finds Dredd facing the moral dilemma of whether or not he should kill a friend who is possessed by Judge Death, a being who comes from another dimension where it's illegal to be alive.

While talking to the trade, Shoreline big shot Morris Ruskin gave his take on the property, saying, "We are reinventing the franchise by taking it back to the edge and style of the original comicbook."

Ruskin's partner, Vicki Pike, adds, "This is a great time for movies about superheroes, and there are thousands of JUDGE DREDD stories, so there is endless material available to work with. It will also be easier to brand the movies by presenting them back-to-back."

I suggested to a friend of mine that The Rock (aka Dwayne Johnson) would make a great Judge Dredd. He said "No Way".

The Rock is the most articulate of all the Wrestlers and thats why he's slotted into movies so easily. Beats Stallone any day!!!! Quote from another friend of mine!

Stallone was far too wooden for the role of Judge Dredd, The Rock is more animated which is what is needed for the role.

Who else thinks that The Rock would make a great Judge Dredd?

An complete unknown should play Dredd so we have none of that taking the helmet off nonsense.

Get the stars in to play the badies.

The Rock-No Way

Just thinking about it, if he kept the helmet on then I think Jason Statham from Lock Stock/Snatch would be a good choice, he's got the face for it.

If they stick to the style of the comics it should be good. That Stallone travesty ticked me off no end. Right "up there" with Highlander 2. :/

I want the Scorpion King to flop so that The Rock goes back under the rock he crawled from. :D

In a perfect world, we should neer see Dredd's face in any film adaptation, but they'll need a star to get the project rolling smoothly, so vanity will win & the helmet will come off, at every opportunity, no doubt.
If they must get a famous actor to play Dredd, I think Russell Crowe would do a good job.

Absolutely no chance. They can’t even re-print the comic version because of the threat of legal action from McDonald’s and Burger King so a film version is a non-starter however nice an idea it might be.

The Judge Cal storyline could work as a movie but for Dredd to be understood by an audience who don’t know him you’re gonna have to show at least half an hour of him just kicking ass and being a fascist - how popular is that going to be in Smallville, USA? Anything else and it’s just not Dredd.

James Woods as Judge Death, and an unknown please for the Dredd role. Keep that helmet on! Charlize Theron as Judge Anderson, she can take whatever she likes off ;)

Judge Cal was a great story. Bring back the Kleggs - Oncey, Twicey, Nice Slicey (or something like that).

What's JD got to do with McDonald's and BK?

Anyway, The Rock can't act.........but then again, being JD wouldn't require too much acting ability anyway.

It was a 2000AD storyline from early (late 70s I think) in the run and miraculously it was printed in full in the weekly comic but the threat of massive legal action from the two burger giants has kept it from being reprinted ever since. As a result those copies of 2000ad are some of the most valuable and provide hugely entertaining reading mainly because of the psychotic Ronald McDonald featured.

Kids comics were great way back then.
