help I'm confused, what advantage is there having a player with a built in dts or 5.1 decoder as to a dts amp. I have an original wharfedale 750 and an old yamaha pro-logic receiver I know the 750 can output dts but is it cheaper to buy a new dts amp or a new dvd player with dts decoder to somehow output to my receiver?
if the 750 has a 5.1 decoder in it (and has 6 analogue outs on the back) and your amp has 6 in's on it then you will be able to play in 5.1.

There is no advantage in having a built in decoder in a DVD player, be it DD or DTS, over one in a receiver/amp. Certainly not when one can purchase DD/DTS amps for under £200.
Built in decoders lack many of the facilities that amps do, most notably crossovers for bass.
