Depressingly the Beeb have now stooped to the level of E4 with this utterly pointless addition to the on-screen graphic on first-run programmes like 15 Storeys High. Apparently we (the viewers) are now so stupid and lazy that not only do we need to be told what channel we’re watching but also if the programme is new or a repeat. What‘s next? DoGs saying "COLOUR", "WIDESCREEN", "COMEDY", "MOVIE" etc.

It cheapens the programme, distracts attention from the show, insults the viewer’s intelligence and reduces the BBC to the same level as QVC. I fully expect to see DoGs introduced across all BBC channels.

;) The TV audience as a whole is usually treated according to the "lowest denominator".

But yeah I agree...the DoGs are pathetic. Thing is though...can we really expect anything other than TV companies taking such a route? In the next few years I fully expect to see banners appear during programs informing the viewer of what is being broadcast next.

With the proliferation of Soaps and Reality TV, the "average" intelligence level of TV audiences is kind of a moot point. And the TV audience as a whole and as individuals really shouldn't expect to be treated any better than the level of intelligence accorded to us from such programs.

And to strengthen your point, what's a DoG? Seriously, I don't know.

Already been done.

I don't have a problem with DoGs particularly as long as they're discreet (like the ARD/WDR ones on German TV). Sadly most of ours seem to be too big and too distracting. None are as bad as the Rai Uno one though :gag:

Yeah it does my head in when you get huge blocks of words appearing during the show you're watching saying what's on next, what was even worse tho was i wastching something on Sci-Fi channel and some messages came up in the middle of a program promoting something they were showing at some point during the next week?!?!?!
