How naive is that guy being???

The food in the restaurant is crap.
He has no bookings.
His girlfriend can't stand him.
His business partner does nothing but criticise him.

I wish he'd pull his head out the sand & realise his business isn't working!

I remeber him from the last series when they were repairing the house. A complete plank.

Is it? I missed last weeks episode and haven't heard owt about the food. So what was said about it then?

Is the restaurant still open btw? If it is I guess it's been a reasonable success.

it hasn't even opened yet!

they cooked some food for the locals as a taster & it got mixed reviews. they didn't look like they enjoyed it & i think they were just trying to be polite :|

Did you see the first series? These things always follow the same pattern of uphill strugle then success. It would be a bit boring if everything went to plan.

In the first series Nippi, the other indian guy, did nothing but be pessimistic and it turned out very well in the end.

Rissa, the restauranter, is such a drama queen and doesn't really appreciate that it's different to working in London. Yes, he's camper than a row of tents.

Nigel's ok, his girlfriend doesn't seem to have a problem with him. He is a bit idealistic but he knows what he's doing. Clearly he's costs are covered by the fee he gets for the series (he's the producer) and the book.

They did a test before opening and I think they tweaked things based on that.

Spoiler about the current status of the restaurant
Apparently it was a success but I'm not sure if it's still running. It was only meant to be a short term thing IIRC

i'm a little suspicious about this programme, as Nigel is the producer. it would be a bland programme to try and sell to C4 if everything was always running smoothly.....

Errr, not according to the preview of next week.

Why the hell would you go to all that trouble and hassle for "a short term thing"? Oh, for television of course...

True but that's next week! Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

it's obvious that she doesn't like him though. they live in the same small french town yet haven't seen each other for the past 3 weeks. what kind of relationship is that?? they have been implying since the start that she is a bit cool with him.

Sort of but they've also said she's had to do a lot of travelling for work

Anyone see the final episode?

The restuarant was so succesful they had to turn people away. It was still running 4 months after opening. When Nigel took his friend Sally to the station I knew something was going on and it turns out they got together in the end.

Missed the last bit though, he said he'd run for mayor, but of where? Vals-le-ban (sp?)?

It's always appeared a bit staged for my liking, but I prefer the original series on balance, especially the extended version Channel 4 showed last year which was less rushed and looked at things in more detail. This series was shorter than the previous one looking at the house project, and consequently looked rushed. Sure the producers could have done another couple of programmes to flesh things out a bit, especially what really happened with Nigel and Celine.

I've never been that keen on Nippi to be honest. Was watching one of the first series episodes the other day where he was whinging about Nigel not consulting him on the disposal of some rubble to make a parking space. Like Nippi consulted Nigel when trying to sell the house from under him several times during the project! Two faced is one of the kinder things I'd comment about Nippi. Always blaming Nigel for everything whilst he sat back and pranced around like he thought he was royalty! Funny how he suddenly became enthusiatic for the restaurant project once it looked like there was money to be made!

Ordered the book from Amazon, and hopefully that will give a bit more insight into what really happened during both projects. I don't think Nigel struggles financially as much as the series pretends, but it doesn't help when his business partners are like Nippi. That said, I think he's a bit of a naive idealist at times, prone to tantrums when people don't automatically agree with him. Always reckoned Celine would dump him once the novelty wore off, but he's probably better off with someone like Sally, who gave me the impression of liking him from the start. Good luck to him either way. :)

In Nippis defence, on an online chat last time when it was about the other project he Nigel did say that they were really good friends but it was better TV to show them just arguing.

Also at the start Nippi knew Nigel had taken a loan against the profit they had both made, not just half of the profit but had included Nippis share of profit to invest in the restaurant. Nippi said at the time it was important for Nigel to earn some money which was nice of him considering.

Oh well:)

No idea if it is any good, but there's A Place in Greece tonight with a similar format.

Yeah I must agree that the whole programme did seem rather contrived but nonetheless I thoroughly enjoyed the two series. How does he hope to be Mayor when he is not even a French citizen and by his own admission has only basic French speaking skills?.

Cue series three.

Mick.

Yet to watch the Greek programme, but I agree a third series of A Place In France is a possibility. Would be nice if C4 repeated the extended 1st series again, followed by an extended version of the 2nd series, with all the bits not included previously.

The 1st series is being shown on Sky (but I'm not sure when) I watched it when it was first shown. But it was an incredibly annoying programme the constant arguments and disagreements made you wonder how they ever managed to decide on France to buy a house, yet alone make the investment and renovate it!

cervaro- watch the Greece programme, it's going to be just as annoying but looks a lot funnier

Sky or one of the UKTV/discovery channels? If it's the one's I've seen it's the original version not the extended one

Discovery H&L showed the entire first series on Saturday afternoon, again! Never out of their schedules for long. Want to see the uncut, 20 part version that C4 showed last year again. Was interesting to see all the bits that were missed out in the original 8 part series, e.g. Nippi driving the 2CV back to England packed to the gills with wine, cheese, etc. So much so, that he'd wrecked the car by the time it reached his shop!

Nigel's place in France starts Tue 15th Feb on CH4. This time Nigel's selling the house to raise money for a B&B for British tourists

Nice to know Nigel is still managing to stay in France. No doubt Nippi will reappear just in time to criticise Nigel yet again, and to claim some money of course.
