You know that trick you could do to keep the red dot of your screen if watching any program. Well after a software update sometime today I can't do it on the sports channels (1,2,3 & extra).

For those that don't know what you do is press the red button on your Sky remote quickly followed by the back up button, then even after the adverts the red dot would not re-appear. It would not work if you changed channels.

I know I can still press the backup button to remove it, but as it stands at present I am going to have to do it after every advert break :(

Is anyone else seeing this on the sports channels ?

Yeah, I noticed that to, while watching the Norwich Match tonight, tried it 3/4 times, yet it re-appears straight away

The only other fool proof way of removing the red dot is to manually tune in all your favourite channels using Add Channels and viewing them through Other Channels. You can't flick between these channels as easily though.

If you have Sky+ and you record everything you want to watch the red dot won't appear at all and you can more easily skip through the commercials.

I can't really be bothered to tune them in manually because as you say John it is not easily moving between them, I guess I will just have to keep the remote handy.

It does only seem to happen to the four sports channels at the moment, although I do wonder if this will migrate to all the other interactive Sky channels.

You could always buy a dot zapper from here (http://www.pacelink.co.uk/dotzappe.htm)

I really wish that Sky would let you turn off the red dot for good. As a Tivo owner it is very annoying as I can't get rid of it - almost tempted to get a Sky+ box just to get rid of the dot :gag:

Might look in to a DotZapper

Tivo Red Dot removal is in it's infancy but there are solutions available. Check out a thread discussing it here (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=153504&highlight=red+dot)

Was a bit peeved when I found this out as well, although I can't honestly say it bothers me THAT much.

I say scrap the red icon - if we wanted to see what interactive options there were, we'd just push the damn button!

If you have TiVo...this (http://www.skyeye.force9.co.uk/skyeyet.htm) is the red-dot remover you need.

I know one channel is looking at the possibilities of animating their red dot so the text changes every 2 seconds or so. How distracting will that be, one sure fire way of stopping people from watching if ever there was one.

Forum over at Digital Spy has been discussing (http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/t/114538/ds.html) the new EPG software download and this is one of the 'features' :( along with seperate aspect ratios for RF1 & RF2 outputs

All new features listed here (http://skydigital.mediabullet.co.uk/index.php?page=newepg04) with screenshots.

Nice.. Especially like the aspect ratio idea.

...except it's not truly 'seperate'. Apparently, the output switches to whichever a/r has been selected for whichever remote control has most recently been used (i.e., in-room or via a TV-eye) so they over-ride each other and this won't work with 'standard' remote extenders :(

I have one, and it works very well. Only caveat - Grundig boxes seem to ignore any signals on the RF2 port after a day or so, have to reboot the box for it to work again.

Apparently other Sky boxes are fine with it.
