Rizel23 ,
I`d advise the following for your surround / DVD.
If you go for seperates:
DVD: Pioneer Dv444 (look in bargain forums)
Amp: Either Pioneer VSXD510 or yamaha RXV420RDS £220-£250
Speakers: Yamaha NSP220 or NSP320 £160-£200.
The Toshibas are ok, but from our experiance (as some forum members will confirm!) they are NOT as reliable as previous toshiba models, and everyone thats changed to DV444 or bought DV444 has been impressed with it.
As for the amp and speakers, well, they do the job for the money, but they won`t exactly be the best you can get for the money. Personally, unless you can stretch your budget a little to afford something like a Marantz SR4200 for the receiver, if you upgrade the speakers later you would not be happy with the amp sound:(
Another option, which you should audition against the Kenwood/Eltax combo, would be to go for an all in one, such as Sonys DAVS500, or the better Pioneer NSDV77/88. I`d also recomend the NSDV55, which you should be able to find cheap now as its discontinued.
At the end of the day, buy what you like the sound of, but DON`T buy something because its cheap, if you don`t listen to the options available in terms of all in one, or spending a little more - you would probably be disapointed!
Thanks Justin for you detailed reply. I really need a DVD Player that can play VCDs, Multiregional and MP3 Play is also a must so the Toshiba seems ideal, but i know the Pioneer's are top class but lack the features the Tosh does i think for the price.
I'am really trying to keep to around a grand as i can'nt go much higher as Christamas is just round the corner, but will look at what you suggested for the Amp and Speakers as thats a area i'd like to spend a bit more in if i can get a bit more cash together.
if anyone can offer there options on the 2 TVs i'd listed that would be great.

No probs, but I think you`re missinformed with the Pioneers! The Pioneers always have been VCD/CD-R compatible (toshibas only since this years models), AND the Pioneer DV444 upwards play MP3 files. To be honest the Pioneers have more features then the tosh, plus 54mhz video dacs, so its actually the tosh that lacks the pioneer features:)
Thanks Justin for the reply again. Have just seen the is player on ya site and must say it looks good:
Pioneer DV444
Questions is does it play VCDs?
Also what the different between this modle and this one?
Pioneer DV545
I'am not to bothered about macro off or 2 scarts so which you recommend?
I also heard tthat the older players (530 & 535) has a nosie drives? Do these modles suffer from these as well? i must say they look very slick!
Many Thanks, Rizel
You could spend your £1000 on a 43 inch RPTV and bask in its glory till you get a DVD player, amp etc for Christmas :)

Now that sounds like a good idea!

I would luv a 43 inch RPTV but it probably won'nt fit in my bedroom!
Don't know about you Rizel but after reading Justins replies and checking out his website and forum offers, he's pretty much succeeded in selling me a new DVD player. Might just be my xmas present has been sorted :)
Yep, i'll definatly be buying one from his company, very proffesional site and his replies are very helpfull, just don'nt know which Pioneer to buy now!
Just bumping this incase anyone has anymore info for me :)

All Pioneers have always played CD-R/VCDs which is why they have traditionally been popular:)
If you are not too worried about the extras like better remote and audio output, then just go for the DV444. The new machines are a lot quieter:)
