Saw this on its first BBC4 showing (Saturday at 9) and, personally, thought it to be technically amazing but rather dull. I'm determined to give it a second chance but don't fancy splashing out for the DVD, which means that BBC4's repeat showing, at midnight on Friday (or 12am on Saturday if you prefer) is most welcome.
Michael Brooke's review can be found at http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=223 and I would definitely echo his comments about needing to know your Russian history; I don't, and it came across to me as a series of vignettes with very little happening. Not doing a very good job of promoting the film, am I? :/
