View Full Version : Help - anyone with a 2mb Pronto
I've just bought one of these, and am a little confused. On Remote Central, it talks about how the Pronto lets you select the make of each device the first time you set it up - I didn't get this option. Was it only on the US ones, or is my handset faulty?
Any help much appreciated.
Pretty sure the US model has a built in codes database (which takes up a fair chunk of memory); the Euro version doesn't so you have to learn the codes from your current remotes.
Do me a favour.....can you access the "versions" panel (can't remember exact name!) where it should give you three different items and their version numbers. Can you confirm each to me.
Cheers.
it's only on the US model. Checkout the FAQ over at remotecentral. The forums there are full of people with prontos so also worth asking them rather than hear.
Btw, I alway thought the database was a waste of memory and wish the prontopro had the option to delete it. I want more memory!
Cheers guys - I had looked on the FAQs on Remote Central, but must have missed the relevant bit.
Yee_har - the bit I think you mean says:
Sys V4.8 (02/22/2001 19:31)
App V4.86 (02/22/2001 19:34)
RU940 V1.0 (11/16/2000 16:02)
Just out of interest - why do you need it?
When I got mine a few month's back one of those numbers (mine are the same BTW) was higher than the corresponding one shown on Philips own site (can't find that page now, typically)
Thanks for confirming.
Tip - if you suddenly appear to have a "dead" Pronto, check you've not nudged the very sensitive Contrast wheel on the side....

Just got myself one from Richer's and I've got to agree it's taking a lot of setting up and I think I'm going to download a few more librariesfrom remotecentral because that can really make your menu's look great.
Only five more remotes to go and !!!Macro's!!!, maybe finish for Xmas.
:D :D :D

John_bones: I know what you mean. They take a hell of a long time to get them *exactly* as you want them, but when your done, its mst definitely worth it! Took me a good week or so to do mine, and I also nicked a fair few buttons on the way :)
I've got an absolute stack of stuff on mine, and still have about 80% free memory, so I'll have to have a look about for some more games to stick on there! ;)
A good bit of advice for when you first come to program your Prontos is to make an 'alias' CCF to start with. This is basically the most basic CCF you can imagine, with loads of non-bmp buttons for each device, not caring too much for layout, but ensuring that EVERY button of each remote is covered.
Then, you can 'learn' the buttons off each remote to each button (downloads of CCFs can be hit and miss sometimes). Save this 'alias' CCF (it should be very small as it only contains the learned codes, no bmps etc).
You can then design your 'proper' CCF with all the bells and whistles. At some stage merge this to the 'alias' CCF and save as a new CCF (preferably at the start). You only then need to alias the buttons of the proper CCF to the codes that came in with the merge, therefore it makes sense to merge the CCFs right from the start of designing the 'proper' one.
This method means you never have to learn the remotes ever again (unless you get a new one etc) and you can totally redesign the 'proper' CCF from scratch if you want very quickly as often as needed.
Hope that makes sense.......
