For all fans of this film, who may not have noticed the news posted at thedigitalbits.com: the excellent film Heavenly Creatures is at last coming to DVD. There are now two DVD versions of this film, woth of which are inferior. Miramax has now finally decided to do something with Peter Jackson's HC. The upcoming release of his Lord of the Rings film will have helped, I'm sure.

Here's hoping that the DVD will do justice to this extraordinary film!

I love Peter Jackson but I didnt get alot out of this film.

It is quite good, just didnt do it for me.
Maybe if Kate Winslet had got hacked up with a lawnmower I might have liked it more.:D

I'm itching to get my mitts on a dvd of this outstanding film, but I'd been told the Canadian version was P&S and the French had un-removeable subtitles... :( Any idea if this is indeed the case?

Anyway, thanks Harman for the original post - off to check the DigitalBits news now... :)

Damn, I could've answered your question on the Canadian version if it wasn't on loan!

That is exactly what I have been made to understand. The Canadian version is pan & scan, and the French DVD has subtitles that can't be removed. All the more reason to look forward to the (hopefully great) new Miramax release.

Director's commentary, anyone?

I got the canadian from ebay a few months ago and it is indeed pan and scan.
I picked it up for £8 so I'm happy with it until the widescreen special ed appears. The picture is excellent ,but I think its only a stereo soundtrack. It is far better than my old vhs copy though.

...I've just looked and there is a copy currently listed on ebay for £6.

Thanks for the updates people... fingers crossed the new DVD will be better than the other two then.

As for a director's commentary, I've got a sneaking suspicion that Mr Jackson might be just a little bit too busy with other things at the moment :) . No harm in hoping though!
