View Full Version : Shrek: R1 versus R2 - Don't get too down hearted!
I received the R1 edition of the superb 'Shrek' today, and whilst it looks to be a feature packed two disc release, the reality is somewhat different. Okay, it is 2 discs, but the extras are for the most part aimed at the kids with a plethora of poor interactive games. The important 'extras' like commentary track, behind the scenes, etc. are also on the R2 release, as is the 'extended ending', which amounts to about 3 mins. of the main characters in a karaoke jam.
No, for me the feature is the most important aspect of any realease. So forget your disappointments of one disc versus two and just enjoy the movie.
P.S. Mind you, the R1 DTS soundtrack option is one not to be missed! :D
If you have a chipped machine you have to crazy to buy R2.

Just a small comment by the director (!) of Shrek:
I just watch NTSC because it is so much easier here. As an overall thing, I prefer watching films in PAL because the frame rate is much closer without the 3:2 pulldown issue, the image resolution is much better, and the colour resolution is better, so if it was absolutely up to me, I would watch PAL.

So I guess that I am crazy too - cause there is no way I'm going to buy the R1 and get a crappy NTSC picture just to get a couple of stupid games.
i agree.R2 nice and crisp.I usually only watch extras once anyway and the main reason i'm getting the film is because i want the film.i'd still be getting it even if it had no extras as i suspect would everyone else.

The difference between NTSC and PAL is hardly there, whatever disc you get, enjoy it!!!

here we go again.......
The difference between PAL and NTSC is about the same as... oh, DTS and DD5.1. :)
Some people prefer high quality sound, and others prefer high quality sound. I'd choose PAL Shrek over DTS NTSC Shrek personally, except for the whole extras issue.
