New album from The Liars (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000YHHSO/qid=1077544777/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_11_1/026-9900481-0386841) out today. Anybody else heard it? I have to say, it's one of the most messed up albums I've heard since This forum unfriendly titled album (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000042OGU/qid=1077544579/sr=1-26/ref=sr_1_2_26/026-9900481-0386841) by Jackie O'. Don't get me wrong, it's messed up in a good way, it's just hard work, as the best music often is. Some people will hate this album, and that's fine. It's not everyone's cup of tea. When I was at university, I was going to write an essay called "What Is Music?", the premise being that music shouldn't have to be made using just the 12 notes we are used to in the west. Notes are at the end of the day sound. This album is a testament to that.
If you have their first album, don't expect more of the same, there are very few traces of their original sound here.
I'd heard great things about The Liars, based upon live performances and their first album. I "happened upon" a promo copy of this and I have to say I wondered what the hell the fuss was about. Maybe it requires some work, but I might have to try the first album first.

The first album is great, you should check it out. It's totally different to this album.

The first album is more listenable (sounds like bad Fall) but the new album ... :gag:
Another Emperor's new clothes band...

Having heard the first and loving it upto the utter cack last track, that seems to go on for a fortnight, I may give it a go, but I read a review that said a lot of it was 'spoken word'; is that true?

If by spoken word you mean shouty ramplings whilst someone plays a tape of 'Jet Set Willy' for the ZX spectrum. Then yes it is.

They have made the entire album available for download on their website.
Feel free to check out the DOWNLOADS section of the site. "They Were Wrong, So We Drowned" is there in it's entirety thanks to Josh hooking up the wires. I know it takes the fun out of downloading records and stuff.... If you still want to feel like an outlaw, try tying a bandanna over your mouth and give yourself a name that ends with "beard".
