OK - Just answered my own question by looking at DVD Box Office so new one.

The Director's cut is easily the best version of the film, it also has the best extras, with a very good commentary & deleted scenes. However, I'd have a guess (I haven't seen the normal THX edition) & say that the transfer isn't as good, as the 15mins that have been added are of very poor quality.

It's released tomorrow isn't it?
ABSound list it at £14.50 delivered, but they might not have it in stock tomorrow.

DVDBoxOffice are probably the cheapest, £11.56!! but you'll also have to wait for them to get it in stock.

I have the 2 disc set and I have to say the picture quality is not even close to the THX theatrical version :(
The extended scenes dont look very good (as we all know) but the whole film in general looks washed out IMO.
Still, having said that, it is an excellent film and if I didn;t have it already I would get it :)

Oh, and the biggest let down is that ending :(
