I am 26 years old, and going through some of my collection I am buying films I remember watching as a kid. Not all the films are great, but they do hold nice memories for me :)
I am the only who lets his childhood memories influence the DVD's I buy?
Examples being:
The Pink Panther Collection I have so many memories of watching them with my sister and laughing so hard it hurt.
Young Sherlock Holmes
Jaws - sitting on the sofa being so scared when Robert Shaw's character gets eaten
I've done this with varying degrees of success.
I've got to admit that most of the time, I don't think it's a good idea. I remember renting Police Academy, telling my girlfriend "you'll love it, it's hilarious!" :|
Mind you, thinking about the movies I liked when I was a kid, most of them were crap anyway (House, Ghoulies, the Police Academy films)
I bought Krull when it was released on dvd because I had a huge crush on Lysette Anthony. I'm still keeping it, even though it's poo! ;)
There are exceptions to the rule though. Watched the Karate Kid on Channel 5 a few months ago and thought it was great! (got to buy it) and I still think Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of my favourite movies of all time (and it has been for 20 years!)

My first DVD was The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
I think I had a disturbed childhood.

Yeah, bought a fair few DVDs to remind me of my childhood. But as Jon B says, it's rarely a positive experience. I even bought the Flumps DVD as I remember loving it. Couldn't even sit through one episode  Oddly, I love a lot of stuff now that I absolutely HATED when younger!
hmmmm trying to think if I've rewatched one of the films I loved as a kid and hated it. Can't think of one...
Movies I loved as a kid and would definately buy are films like 'The Goonies' and 'Gremlins' etc. I haven't seen 'Labyrinth' in a while but I loved that.
Would love to see a release of 'The Phantom Tollbooth'.
I loved rocky as I kid, god i remember renting Rocky 4 nearly every week from my old Video Shop- the rocky anthology was the first DVD box set I ever bought!
