After a reasonably priced (£600 max.) Home Cinema sound set-up for the living room. Need amp and speakers.

Not a huge room but not small (i think it's something like 16 x 14 ft.). Ideally want satellites as floorstanders etc. may be too big (depends on size though).

One major problem is the girlfriend who is not keen on big boxes and wires around the room. Her main problem is the centre speaker - she doesn't want a huge box on top of the TV (but it's OK for her to have picture frames on there - tut!), so this would need to be a satellite also.

I've heard the Mission Six Pack is quite good.

Any recommendations for amp and speakers?

Oh, would like DTS also.

The FS speakers are meant to be quite reasonable and small too have a look at the other threads lower down.

As for things like the centre speaker, it may be a case of getting clever. For instance, you could put the centre speaker on a shelf/bracket just above and behind the TV and then hang acoustically-transparent cloth in front (and to the sides?) of the centre to hide it completely from view.

Send her on holiday and install it ALL when she's away.
The time and effort involved in installation and fine tuning will cause far more grief than the purchase believe me!

I recommend replacing your girlfriend with a model that is compatible with your other home-cinema hardware.

How about the GirlFrield(TM) AV1 - stunning looks, and a keen interest in home-cinema technology. This model would not object to placing a centre speaker above the TV, and would even make practical suggestions for high-end centre units which would sonically complement your existing front and rear speakers.

You could always trade your old VCR/14" TV-compatible model on eBay

:D

Eltax Stargate X1 £109 from QED-uk.com are a very girlfriend(ly) solution. Check out www.eltax.com for details.
I had to abandon some big floorstanders because of room size constraints and the Stargates met with my GF approval. Just don't let her see the foot cube subwoofer until you've hidden it and you'll be fine.
