View Full Version : DDDHouse - anyone had recent customs problems?

Hi
Doing a search, I've noticed that a few have had problems with DDDHouse orders, ie - that customs have imposed charges, even though the package might not have cost £18.00, and that customs have estimated the value of the DVD's.
Now these threads are quite old now, so I wonder if anyone has any up to date advice on DDDHouse orders.
I usually use the brilliant Yesasia for my Asian orders - for a start they are better packaged for postage, and recent releases are actually cheaper most of the time, but I've noticed that DDDHouse have a few older releases at very good prices.
Now I'm not looking to pull a fast one with customs (This time;) ), any order I place will cost me less than the customs limit - but I don't see why the Mount Pleasant scumbags should impose estimated charges - it's a disgrace!
Would anyone recommend that really I should limit orders to 2 discs per parcel?
Thanks again
I ordered 2 discs before Christmas and it was OK.

I ordered four discs (costing about £17) in January and there weren't any problems.
yup, just got a 5 disc order through with no problems.
I ordered 10 discs from them back in December. I had it sent as 2 orders of 5, and again no problems.

I wouldn't order (depending on price) more than 3 - 4 discs on a single order. Now I can't remember if dddhouse declare the correct value. To be safe, maybe keep it to about £16 on a single order if possible? Incidentally, dddhouse usually have loads of good bargains in the weekly cheap sale.

Did you place separate orders, or was it 10 in one order and then request that they split the order in the comments box? Just curious to know if they would do that. :)
a lot of their disks are 30hkd
so x6 is just £12
obviously depending on price ive never really had a big order over customs limit
I usually order 4 at a time and all orders come (well) in under £18, so have not had any Customs trouble.
btw, has anyone thought that the Customs limit should be raised now? Hasn't it been £18 for years?

Cheers for the replies.
Any order I placed would be well below the customs limit (Over that and with the bargain prices I could probably stock up my own video shop!).
The reason I asked is that looking at older threads, it seems that a while ago some people were having trouble with the customs people, ignoring the customs declaration, and estimating how much CUSTOMS thought the discs were really worth and charging accordingly.
It's
this (http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=57842&highlight=ddd) thread I found.
Sounds a total cheek to me. All the same, I might just limit each order to 2 or three. Thing is - if there was a customs stop, then the handling charge would come to more than some of these DVD's are actually worth.

I think I did two orders of 5. It was when they had a sale so prices were extra cheap. So I just worked it out so that neither package went above the dreaded £18.

I have had several 5-disc orders this year. None of them have been over 18 pounds for the discs and I've always asked politely if DDD can mark this customs declaration without including the shipping, which they're always happy to do over the last hundred and 50 discs I've bought from them.

I think they do that with all packages being sent to the UK?

they did it with mine the other week. the dvd's (7 of 'em) were worth a combined total of $251 HK, which is just under £18 anyway, and they marked it as such... took delivery of the parcel with no problems/charges.. :)
