View Full Version : Brotherhood Of The Wolf
Saw it on Friday. Really well directed and excellent fight scenes from Mark Damascos who was in a pants film called Drive, but really can kick arse. Worth seeing.

I'll be seeing this on Saturday at the horror marathon in the Odeon in Glasgow along with Jeepers Creepers, The Fly, Theatre of Blood and Event Horizon. Can't wait!

Who's Mark Damascos?
He's the kung fu bloke in Drive.
....and Brotherhood of the Wolf.
and was in the crow series taking over brandon lee's part
He was also in Crying Freeman..
Anyway I really want to see Brotherhood of the Wolf but it's not showing in Cambridge, I hope the Arts Cinema will get it
anyone like me who is purchasing the French release (NO English subs BTW) will be interested in the full review of the 2-disc set over at DVDRama (http://www.dvdrama.net/fiche2?PACTE%20DES%20LOUPS%20(LE))...
they basically say...
Picture - best they've seen on DVD this year, 10/10
Sound - again, superb 10/10
Extras - would get 10/10 if it wasn't for the 3-disc set, which will surely get the the full 10/10
can't wait :)

Saw this tonight
Very Good!
Great cinematography, acting, set design etc
shame about the fight scenes, which were brutal, well shot but lacked imaginative choreography.
One.....at....a..time......group fights. Come on guys, surely a HK action director could come up with more than this especially as Dacascos (and his doubles) handled Koichi Sakamoto's excellent group fights in "Drive".

Did a little checking and its the action director for hard boiled apparently. He also starred in hard Boiled as 'mad dog'.
Bugger, I really want to see this the more everyone keeps raving about it
I had no complaints regarding the action choreography but I do think Gans could have used more wide shots showing the fights off to their full - also the use of fast cuts again restricted your view of the overall action...still, I found it to be riveting stuff.

It already did - the UK premiere was there a month or so ago. It may come back of course :)
All in all it's been a great year for french cinema - Le Pacte Des Loups, Les Rivieres Pourpes, Amelie. Much better than the tosh Hollywood has been churning out lately (IMO)

To be thoroughly pedantic, it was actually shown in Cambridge way back in July as part of the Film Festival, which was where I saw it. And very good it is too.

Anyone know where I can find out some info on the 3 disc set ?
Cheers
there are full specs of the 2 and 3 disc sets at www.amazon.fr - it's prominently featured on the DVD page so head to there.
DVDFR.com (http://www.dvdfr.com/dvd/fiche.php3?id=4330) have a specsheet - do a search both there and on Amazon for 'pacte' and you'll pull up more info...
the 3-disc set is, last time i looked, sold out on Amazon.fr (limited edition)

Argh, do you know of anywhere else that its available ? Will it be available outside of France, i.e at Play, UK amazon etc ?
Cheers
1 more thing :p
Will the 3 disc set have English subs ? Couldnt see any mention of subs on those sites, maybe I'm blind, :)
Cheers
JD20 - No english subs :( I'm unofficially going to try and make a subtitle track for it (becoming a hobby of mine, read this thread (http://thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16318&highlight=killer+french) for my trials and tribulations so far on another title!) but i doubt that'll be done forever :D
so you'll need good french skills or just a passion for the movie to watch it and not really understand the language (I know minimal french, so i'm in this category really, plus the Limited Edition-ness of the package means its got a good resell value).
You won't see this package at Play/Amazon UK and I doubt even ********* will bother due to the lack of English subs...
try...
www.fnac.com
www.cinestore.com
www.cdiscount.com
think those URLs are correct :)
