ABC (us network) might cut a love scene for NYPD Blue episode

Producer Steven Bochco has expressed outrage over reports that ABC is planning to edit parts of a forthcoming NYPD Blue episode in the Mountain and Central time zones, where it airs at 9:00 p.m. "It's a hysterical overreaction" to the Janet Jackson Super Bowl incident, he told the Los Angeles Times."There's a general taste level we impose on what we do, and that's what our loyal audience has come to expect. Nobody who watches NYPD has a problem with it." Bochco threatened to pull the episode entirely rather than permit the network censors to edit it.

here in the us, there are four time zones. the east coast and the west coast audience will see the show at 10pm and the central and mountain areas will see the show at 9 pm.
and there is nudity all the time on NYPD blue anyways, so why cut it now.

I've only watched the first two series of NYPD Blue - but they seem to have a terrible obessession with, ummm, bottoms. All the time. The scariest scene ever was the close up of ol' Sipowitz's posterior! :eek: Now that there was no need for!

Are they still just as bad for it in later series?

That ER episode - the breasts were those of a dying old lady right? This episode has been shown before anyway (early in the season) and how anyone could interpret them as having any sexual or harmful meaning is actually really offensive in itself.

If I was in the position that some of these programme makers are in I would pull my show off the air outright - hit 'em where it hurts until they see sense.

You can bet the very same right-wing conservative cretins who've been waiting for their chance to jump on this perceived 'moral corrosion' in the media are the very same people out with mistresses and at strip-bars etc - that is of course after they've shot their viagra induced wad watching an Olsen Twins movie.

err, no. it was ep 10x13 'get carter'. there may have been some old woman's breasts earlier in the season (not something i keep track of) but these were new breasts!

ok sorry, my mistake! Just I saw them talking about this on E! News and they were talking about the episode with the old woman, I thought it was the same one that was causing all the fuss.

Following the overhyped controversy of Janet Jackson exposing her breast during the Super Bowl halftime show less than a week before this episode aired, the decision was made to digitally blur a couple of shots of an elderly woman's breasts. Check it out for yourself during Act Three.

I thought it was episode 10.4 "Shifts happen" (http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/GuidePageServlet/showid-111/epid-264196/) that was causing all the fuss!

They do the same thing 9 episodes apart. It's fine the first time but the second (still in the context of the show) is not. :cuckoo:
That is some screwed up country with pathetic, spineless people making the decisons at the TV networks. Will be interesting to see how E4/C4 in the UK screen the episode and whether they even get given the 'unblurred' version or whether the rest of the world will now have to suffer the same ridiculous censorship.
WHY is it ok to have people graphically burn, blow up, get crushed and otherwise violently hurt & executed on US tv but a breast or two (in whatever context) is the most heinous thing that any network dare show!
