You can find our review of the DVD release of Ron Howard's excellent Tommy Lee Jones / Cate Blanchett western thriller The Missing here (http://www.dvddebate.com/article.php?sid=3944&mode=&order=0&thold=).

Ron Howard, Tommy Lee Jones & Cate Blanchett should find new agents.

Tommy plays ( - wait for it - ) an Expert Tracker again :brickwall

Cate plays a Strong Woman in a Man's World(TM) again :brickwall

& as for Ron Howard, well, I think the man's lost the plot. First The Grinch, then A Beautiful Mind, and now this. :oh-hum:

I really wanted to like this, but it was just soooo dull.

Yes, it looked beautiful - the cinematography should have been nominated for an Oscar - but it was so slow & literally nothing happens for huge stretches of the film.

They could have quite easily cut half an hour out & not missed anything important.

The bad guy was great, but everyone else was out-acted by the girl who plays Cate's youngest daughter.

Open Range was much much better, IMHO.

Just watched it, excellent movie with great performances throughout!

Im quite suprised you found it dull, especially since Open Range is a lot more drawn out then this. I agree about Tommy playing another Tracker but its a lot better then Hunted and I think he was perfect for the role.

hmm, watched it at the weekend, not as good as I was hoping, I kinda agree with aprout, I did find it a bit dull.

Plus I quite liked the trailer it it kinda lead me to believe it was a bit more spooky then it was(eg,you didnt know who took the girl straight away etc), but it was ok I guess, I dont think Id watch it again though(actually Ive sold it already!)

Would've been up for this but it's a Western and I don't get on with Westerns generally.

I quite enjoyed The Missing, but found slow and silly in parts. Never found it boring but it could have ended much better. There was no need to kill off Tommy Lee Jones at the end, I feel this will become a very common trend in future films.

I went to see this last night and i thought it was very good, some very good performances as well.

I didn't know the DVD was already out in R1

Although from reading that review it sounds like a commentary was dropped in favour of a French sound track, i might just wait to see if it ends up on the R2 release before parting with my money.

I couldn't disagree more! Thought it was a great film. Very surprised really as i didn't have high hopes, especially after Beautiful Mind and The Grinch.
