View Full Version : Scart socket question (RGB, S-Video, and?)
erm, I know you can have different formats for SCART sockets, like RGB, S-Video, etc....but is there a more 'basic' type - one that's more common on cheaper TV's like portable bedroom TV's?
I only ask cos I play a few back-ups of my PS2 games (so's I don't ruin my originals!) and they come out in black and white in my bedroom (via Scart), but in colour via my RPTV with more 'clever' scart sockets......
I know this could've been in the Console forum, but it's more fundamentally a hardware question.
Composite. That's the default signal that will accompany any other signal (and the PS2 comes with just a composite Scart cable). And S-Video shares pins with RGB so the TV will either have dedicated sockets or some way of manually selecting which it is expecting.
The B&W is because your bedroom TV doesn't cope with the NTSC signal, I believe. And take your "back up" talk elsewhere, please.

Are your back-ups off US/Japan (NTSC) discs?
if yes then it looks like it may be the TV to blame.
You can buy little boxes ( www.lektropacks.co.uk ) that permit the viewing of these games (or DVDs) on a non-NTSC TV that has a stable B&W picture -but they cost £50.
I saw them at the market the other day mind you for £25 at a PSX stall.

Why were you rude to the guy? -He's only asking about his stuff.
oh yeah - I forgot about the NTSC thingy! Actually, I can't believe I didn't think of that!
Yeah, I know it's a little bit 'dodge' but a valid question of b&w signals......(IMO anyway - if mods feel otherwise, please close).
Thanks guys.

I answered the question. Let's not get into a debate about piracy (even if it's really cleverly hidden using the term 'backup'). Suffice it to say it's quite illegal.

Backups are not illegal. Many people make backups because the games are so bloody expensive and get easily ruined by their childrens carelessness, i should know.
Suffice to say there is absolutely nothing illegal in talking about backups or making them.

Talk about reviving a thread from the grave :)
jeez! I hardly remember posting this at all! That's one old thread!
I can't see it generating much chat about the do's and don'ts of 'backups' and piracy in general, but I would imagine this one should be closed just in case.....
Ta!

Perhaps you should become a moderator so you can make such harsh decisions.
The reason it was revived was i did a search, and this was one of the threads that popped up. I read it and replied. Should threads be closed because of their age? If so, whats the point in using the search function?
M$, Sony, Nintendo cant do anything because people are talking about something as legal about making a backup. I could understand if someone was asking about HOW to make a backup, but just mentioning it?
If thats the case, and threads are closed as soon as a backup is mentioned, be very carefull in future when talking about things such as listening to the radio as you dont have a license, or buying second had movies.
fairy nuff - point taken. I personally have no problem with illegal thingys anyway, I'm certainly not one of the OTT brigade on here!!
It's up to me if I would like the thread closed, although I do recall Colin's message about closing threads unnecessarily so I'm happy to see it continue if it serves a purpose.

:)
I cant see this thread serving a purpose to be honest. All im saying is this buisness, all over the place not only here, with legalities has gone to extremes.
If threads can be shut down due to a single word being typed, then id ate to think what might be in the future as technology progresses. You would have to watch what you say in yer own home.
oh, I agree with you 100% - I was just surprised to see this come back from the dead in such a fashion!
