As you all know, over the last 10yrs or so there's been an explosion of New Grounds, I just want to know what happens to the old ones, A Mate of my believe's Derby's old "Baseball Ground" no longer exsists, I say it's still standing, and I think I'm right in saying Southampton's "The Dell" is now a New Housing estate, but what's happen to Roker Park, Wigan, Bolton and all others??

Is there a Site dedicated to this sort of thing :dork:

The Bolton site (Burnden Park) is a bit contraversial for me, let's just say that the directors of the club who were involved in the construction industry made money for themselves out of it.

It is now a Woolworths Big W and car park. Still enough of the old landscape to make the old hairs on the back of the neck stand on end.

Craven Cottage is still standing with Fulham returning soon but it sure would make prime residential development space!

Highbury (Home of God Almighty Theirry Henry) is also to be turned into a housing development, as most of it is a listed building the feel of the place should not change to much.

I believe the Baseball Ground is still standing, I think Derby either train there or their Reserves use it.

The Dell is now a Housing Estate.

Some info here http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/town/park/yfh45/lost.htm
Although the Baseball Ground page doesn't work.

Talking of grounds, I had the misfortune if visiting Franchise FC's 'Hockey Stadium' in Milton Keynes today. As a football stadium it stinks :gag:

Well the oldest ground in the world was Northwich Victoria's Drill Field, until last summer when it was demolished, so now it will become Victoria Park - "a selection of 3 bedroom homes and 2 bedoom apartments" :oh-hum: Meanwhile, the Vics are groundsharing with Witton Albion and are now miles adrift at the bottom of the Conference so the cost of a new stadium would appear to be relegation.

My family are from there, Manchester Road, opposite Orlando Bridge. The Cattle Market is still a football pub but the rest have closed down, very sad. The rest of the area is pretty much unchanged.

Takes me longer to get back from the Reebok into central Bolton than it does to get back from Leeds :help:

Sadly the Baseball Ground has now finally gone - it was demolished at the end of 2003. I managed to grab a few bricks from the wreckage though.

It'll be turned into housing very shortly.

Some pics can be seen towards the bottom of this page (http://www.derbyphotos.co.uk/special/the_bbg.htm)

I lived in Dunlin Close, just behind Rose Hill when I was a student in Bolton. I even took in a few games in the 91/92 & 92/93 seasons but I generally went to Old Trafford :suspect: & Celtic Park (when I could afford the trip)

What happened to Arsenal's old ground in Woolwich? Was there even a ground there or just a patch of grass?

Roker Park was pulled down and there's now houses/flats built on it that stand out like a sore thumb from the rest of the houses round there. Even though the houses are fairly new, they're not very nice.

Very strange decision to knock down and rebuild the stand considering it didn't add too much to the capacity. One of my favorite old grounds was Norwich City's 'The Nest.'

Included a sheer concrete wall just feet from the pitch with terracing built on top of the cliff! A photo can be viewed here: http://www.edp24.co.uk/Content/Sport/CanaryCentenary/Nest.asp The start of the concrete wall is visable at the right of the photo. Just look at the terracing on top!

Check out http://www.stadiumguide.com click on the 'past stadiums' link for various old photo's.

Too right spending £4M over budget and butchering not only a listed building, but one of the recognisable stands in football.

Also .. the Murals on the side were supposed to be kept at the inception of the project and remounted. Instead they were discarded never to be seen again.

What ever happenned to Ayresome Park? Probably the worst ground that I ever attended.
