View Full Version : Matrix soundtracks, what happened?
I haven't seen this subject posted yet, but I'm sure I can't be the only one with thi opinion.
What happened with the soundtrack CD's of the matrix?
The first album was a classic. It really tapped into the whole cyberpunk feel perfectly and blended with the film seamlessly. I still find myself playing every so often, even now.
The second album was OK, with only a couple of hicupps, but the third only had 1 or 2 tracks that I really liked.
Actually, thinking about it they seem to mirror the films perfectly!
Any thoughts?
Depends which sound you are talking about. I really like the last one as it is the FILMSCORE not the commercial soundtrack. I also like the score fo the first one but don't fancy the commercial soundtrack of that. for the second film it seems that they mainly used the commercial stuff for the film as well.
as a score the third one is pretty good.

Are you talking about the OST to the original film or the score that was released? The OST and score were released together as a 2-disc set for Reloaded and Revolutions only had a score.
IMHO, the first CD of The Matrix Reloaded soundtrack is pretty bad bar a couple of tracks- but I think the second CD is decent. They should have let Juno Reactor do the whole score, they seemed to nail it with their tracks for the last two films; Mona Lisa Overdrive is probably my favourite track on them all :D

There is a 2-CD bootleg score for Matrix Reloaded floating round which has a lot more Don Davis stuff than the official release - it's pretty good.
I like the Revolutions score as well, except there's just no need for the Pale track to be on it at all.
I got all of them and must agree that I did not get the same buzz from the last 2 as the first. Don't know why, but the tracks for The Matrix really seemed to capture the moment, not so sure that the last 2 did.
That said, the last 2 prompted me to get Rob Dougan's "Furious Angels" which has to be one of the most listened-to albums I have at the moment and is highly recommended.
I'm talking about the OST mainly, the last 2 just didn't seem as good.
The score CD's though have been on level with each other, maybe even geting better. The Animatrix CD was good too.
What are the tracks on the bootleg (can I say that?).

The bootleg has the full score to the Reloaded (including an orchestra-only version of the Burly Brawl, which is quite odd) plus the same Burly Brawl, Mona Lisa Overdrive & Chateau stuff that's on the official release.

Where are Furious Angels and Mona Lisa Overdrive played in the movie? They sound familiar but I can't remember where they're from...

Furious Angels is the from the fight between Neo and the Agents and the beginning of the film, and Mona Lisa Overdrive is the music from the freeway chase.
