Hi all,
Looking at this particular combo, virtually sold on it, but being a novice in this field, not quite sure if they compliment each other well enough.
What do you think?
Thanks,
Steve
I've got the SR4200 and the Tannoy's and think they are superb for the budget I had. Really wanted the KEF Eggs but just couldn't justify to myself or the missus the £649 price tag.
Managed to get the Marantz for £125 on ebay and the speakers for £219 including a set of stands so all in for £344.

Thanks mate. Is there a lot of difference between the 4400 and the 4200?
Hiya, I got the SR 4200 aswell, cracking little amp, the main diff I think is the 4400 is capable of 6.1, the 4200 only does 5.1/DTS etc. they both have DPLII, I think the remote will be the same, i.e a Learning remote which is a nice addition, I have a combination of the following:
Tannoy 633 Profiles Fronts, MS 905C, MS903 Bipolar Rears and a KEF PSW3000.
Overall very happy with the sound, the only thing I would change on mine is the fronts due to no mag shielding.
Hope this helps
Taz

Been looking at an SR5400 at the moment, but what's all these sound-dropouts I keep hearing about?
Would I better off with a Yamaha with the Tannoy's?

Not sure if the newer models suffer the same, but last year I purchased the Marantz 5300 from Richer Sounds, the dropouts I noticed were when I paused and then restarted a DVD, or during the layer change. The amp would appear to loose the sound signal and there was a 0.5-2 sec delay (from memory:suspect: ) before the sound kicked in again.
I tried another 5300 amp which had the same problems, so ultimately brought a Yamaha, which I still have and am very pleased with.

Any Yamaha model worthy of note mate?
As you can tell, I'm an utter noob at this, with my only home theatre credentials boasting a DTS Digitheatre, which lasted me a few years before it went wrong, then I downgraded to one of those £99 Currys jobbies, which is alright, but no DTS and the sound is well tinny.
Thanks,
Steve

I've noticed this with my 4200, and always assumed it was a necessary delay as the amp worked out what sort of signal it was receiving. It's not too much of a problem unless the layer change has been put in a silly place, and otherwise I find the amp to be excellent.
Does anybody have any more info on the "dropouts" -- are the symptoms mentioned here the same thing, or are the "dropouts" something else?
If I recall correctly, Marantz UK were willing to upgrade any model which suffered from the Drop-outs free of charge, not sure if I seen it on here or on Avforums.
Happy to help
Taz
Thanks Taz. I took a look around and it seems that audio dropouts were being encountered at unexpected times, and that the delay while a digital stream is recognised (which can be triggered during a layer change as the stream to the amp is interrupted) is not an error.

NO audio drop-outs from day one on my SR7200.
Drop-outs can occur on SR models when set to Auto as the amp has to decide what the incoming format is....typical of many amps, and not exclusive to Marantz.

I accept the point but the switch over in my Yamaha is hardly noticeable (DSPAX630), my Marantz was noticeable from the off. It also didn't matter if I had selected the signal being received or set the amp to auto.
My SR4200 also 'drop's-out' during layer changes/menu's etc. I do ahve it set to Auto though so will try it set for DD.
Will Marantz only replace ones that have drop out's in incorrect places then?
