I need to buy some new headphones for out and about use. Who makes the best ones these days? How much is it worth paying? Cheers

The tiny wee sony earbud ones... if you can handle the extra cash, get the noise cancelling version (they are INSANELY expensive).
They are so light that you'll barely notice you're wearing them, and they have better bass than any other earphones I've used.
EDIT: Here are the non-noise-cancelling model at amazon... Sony earplug headphones (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/flex-sign-in/ref=cm_rate_rev_pagepos1/202-0167322-8452638#rated-review)

Thanks I'll have a look at those, bit pricey but perhaps worth it.

I think I've used every Sony earbud available including the NC ones, all the Koss ones and various other brands (I get a new pair every couple of months!) and I reckon you won’t get better value than the Sennheiser MX400's for earbuds or the PX100's for portable headphones.
If you have a large budget then the etymotic are with a look...
Sennheiser HD650 are good but cost £300. You might find HD600 going cheap cost they were the replaced model.

yeah i have Sein MX400s only cost a tenner. Bargain if you only need ear buds.
i was gonna go for the in ear plugs. But i got scared and chickened out. Dont these things go right into ear canal ? would it slowly damage your hearign ? :D

Yeah it would - there's loads of headphone questions posted in the hardware forum.
My vote would be the Sennheiser PX200's over the PX100's - personally I favour the tightness of a closed-back design over the airy nature of open-backs.
I cannot stand the Sony in-ears though - they're all bass and no mid-range. They flatter to deceive.
I'd suggest a visit to www.headfi.org for serious can questions.
