View Full Version : final fantasy R1 @ 30fps ?
i just watched this and the transfer says on the back it was "filmless". it almost looks like it was re-rendered at 30fps for DVD instead of 24fps with 3:2 pulldown.. i couldn't notice any juddering on panning shots like on some films in NTSC. anyone know if it was actually redone at 30fps ? i would be neat if they did that with computerised films :)

I very much doubt it.
That film would have taken absolutely ages to render, and most of it would be rendered in multiple(i'm talking 10 to 15) passes with each render element then composited into a final shot.
To go back and re-keyframe all the animation for 30fps instead of 24, and then re-render each element, and then re-composite each element, would take almost as long as making the film again (the film originally took 4 years to make i think) and cost millions of dollars.
So i very much doubt it. :)
P.S. Just saw it for the first time (missed it in the cinema) and really liked it. Felt it was kind of a hyper-realistic anime, complete with lame and cheesey plot yet awesome and deeply inventive visuals.
it was probably just telecined differently, assuming of course that it is indeed 30fps instead of 24ftps soft telecined.
